OK, gotcha. First off, I dont think Brians attitude towards women was really much different from a lot of rock stars in the 60s. I knew a lot of those characters, both in England and the States, and they all pretty much took what was being thrown at them, and it certainly was being thrown! A friend of mine was a roadie for the Dead and he told me stuff, and lets face it, the Dead werent exactly matinee idols. So if the rock star boy had any looks at all, it was a feast. And Brian wasnt fasting.
His outlook on women/girls in general? I think he had some respect, but a lot of disrespect, depended on the girl. If she was just a tosser, well, then no, not much respect, but others he treated better. Im not talking about the beatings here, since that came out of a darker side of him, usually triggered by drugs and paranoia. But I know he was very fond of Suki, for instance. Not love, but a deep fondness. He cared for and about her, even though I wondered how anyone could put up with her incessant shrieking babble. I think he tuned that out because he genuinely liked her. He tended to treat better the girls who werent "after" anything from him, who just liked him for being him. His insecurities were pretty rampant. Mother complex? Yup. I think he needed a mother. His was pretty much a loser in that department. But if the girls became breeders he got scared, and little boys run scared from that kind of responsibility. Now, you must understand that last sentence is conjecture based on my knowledge of the male animal since I never knew he had ever gotten any girl pregnant, but given Mr Brian Jones, it fits perfectly.
Psychoanalysing dead guys is my forte. Ive got two dead husbands I never completely figured out while they were breathing plus many dead guy friends who could also benefit from the treatment. And Im having the devils own problem trying to figure out one current mouth breather who popped back into my life after 43 years.
Sometimes I wonder why we bother.
