Wow, that's great you've seen it. I found the DVD in the shop today. Finally out, but I didn't buy it. Got it on tape for now. I bought, instead, The Hand of Fear, which is Sarah's last episode. It has only just been released. I really wanted it for the commentary and the interviews. It says a few things about the relationship. There was no sex in Doctor Who. They commented on this. They even talked about the fact that Leela was practically naked and this did not phase the Doctor or make him act differently towards her. It just did not exist. Tom Baker said to Elisabeth that he made sure that whenever he had to handle her [which was quite a bit] he made it very awkward like he wasn't used to intimately handling females, lol. God he's a funny man. The commentaries are quite ammusing. I got Genisis of the Daleks as well and it is nice for me to finally see and hear these actors as themselves. Living here, as opposed to the UK, we never got to see any interviews or the actors as anything but Doctor and Sarah etc. She does look bloody good for almost 60 hey? I hope I look that good and be able to run that well at that age. lol.

I agree with you about School Reunion. I did not like some of the lines and I did not like the way they implied that Sarah had wasted her life waiting for the Doctor to come back. For 30 years? Give us a break. My take on it is that, yes we know she travelled all over the globe doing her journalistic stuff. We know she was into writing books. I believe that she had men chasing her and probably got involved with them BUT.....perhaps she never committed because she knew that if that blue police box ever turned up again, she would just go and leave whoever she was on with at the time. Or at least did not want to have to choose. I don't believe she sat around pining for the doctor, after all they were just very dear friends who probably did love eachother as the best of friends can ever do and she would have missed him. lol. And the Doctor sent her K-9 "OH Doctor, you didn't forget" says she. "Give Sarah Jane Smith my fondest love. Tell her I shall remember her always" says K-9 giving the message from the Doctor, to which she replies "Thankyou K-9" and seems very pleased that he did not forget her.It was funny in the Hand of Fear commentary where Sarah is angry at the Doctor and Lis says that it was interesting the way the character changed and developed and it was about time Sarah got an injection of reality and she needed to leave.

I don't like how this new Doctor and Rose carry on. Too much cuddling in my opinion. Although, a recent ep shows that they really aren't a couple at all. Just friends. Rose is infatuated with him more than anything I think. ONe sided. I loved in School Reunion when Sarah ribbed him about him getting older and his assistants getting younger. Apparently the other Eccelston doctor did kiss Rose when he was regenerating but I didn't see it. We have only 3 more eps before she leaves so I am waiting to see if anything happens or is said. IN School Reunion he came close to saying "someone you love" and in the ep I watched last night they did a similar thing. I hope when the new girl comes on they get away from all this dreary lovey dovey loneliness garbage that they go on with now with him and Rose. I think Doctor Who should be about the story rather than relationship development and emotional angst. How Sarah and the Doctor felt about eachother was evident in how they interacted and it wasn't necessary to voice or discuss it in the show. Except in Hand of Fear when they both said they worried about eachother. That wasn't dwelled on though like they are doing now. I prefer a good story for DW and they can leave the relationship stuff to other shows.

I have always loved K-9. And I too was pleased that he had his original voice back. Didn't like that other one they used at one stage. I think Sarah needs to be reported to the RSPCA though. She hasn't taken very good care of him. I really loved that the doctor gave her a new dog. I also liked the way he picked her up at the end which goes along with what Tom Baker was saying....that's what his doctor would have done. I have a picture from the gallery which I feel must have been an alternate hug scene and although it looks more intimate, I"m glad they used the picking up one because that fits more with the Doctor character. Sarah was more a younger companion and he was more like a mentor than an equal, unlike this doctor and Rose.

I have been watching all the old Sarah eps with the kids. One thing that struck me about School Reunion was that there were times when Sarah didn't seem like Sarah. I would watch the old eps and then the new one again to try and see the old Sarah. I put it down to the fact that Lis has not played her for 25 yrs and also that Sarah is old now and we all change when we get old. Sometimes she looks and acts and sounds just like the old Sarah and other times she seems to be someone else. I did not think she was very Sarahish when she first saw the inside of the new TARDIS. But when they came out again it was like she had not changed. I didn't like the "getting your heart broken " line and I didn't like that Sarah had no family ie grandkids etc. However her response about the Doctor being the only man in her life seemed like more of a tongue in cheek thing to tell him how much he means to her. I also got a shock that Sarah was the one to start the jealous catty stuff with Rose but seeing an interview with Lis, she said that Sarah had things to get off her chest and questions needing answers and all of a sudden there's another girl in the way. So that was the take on that. Sarah did have a jealous streak in Hand of Fear when she got catty and distrusting of Edrad [and rightly so] and they mentioned this on the commentary.

I agree that most of the new shows aren't much good because they are too short and can't tell a decent story. I would have loved School Reunion to have been a 2 parter so Sarah could have shown what she and K-9 could really do. After all she was very gutsy and brave and cleverly often solved most of the problems they encountered. Rose just stands there with her mouth open. Lately we have had 2 2-parters and I have really enjoyed those stories as they had depth and a good cliff hanger. I think they do the one offs because this generation has no attention span and no imagination.

Glad you liked the show. I loved it because of Sarah and K-9.

Let me know what you think of the rest of them when you see them.
