Saw it last night. Bloody excellent!!
Once again, *very* faithful adaptation of the book -- many scenes were just straight out of the book, just the way it describes them. Very accurate! Some scenes were even an improvement, such as the battle with the Balrog.

Characters were all portrayed very well, especially Smeegle, Grima Wormtongue and the Riders of Rohan (wooooooo!!).

....and yes, the battle of Helms Deep KICKED ARSE!!

It's been a very long time since I've read the book though, so there is one thing that bugs me -- at the end of the battle of helms deep, Gandalf is seen using his staff and magicks to fight the Uruk-hai, but as I recall, in the book he used his sword. Is this true or am I just remembering it wrong?
