I agree entirely, the film is a very faithful and detailed vision of the books - and you're right, the battle with the Balrog was excellent! :-) I can't recall if Gandalf used his magicks at Helm's Deep - what did he use at the battle of Gondor in book 3?

It was one of those films where you didn't feel like 3 hours had gone by since you sat down......excellent stuff, the only thing I would say against it is that it makes you look at the other fare being offered to moviegoing audiences and wince slightly at the overall lack of quality there! :-)
