Since our date system is dd/mm, not mm/dd as the Americans do.

So for us, September 11 is 11/9, not 9/11 (which would looks like November 9 to us Aussies!). It's because we move progressively from the smallest unit of time (date) to the largest (year), with month being in the middle. Most Asian countries go from largest to smallest, e.g.: in Japan dates are written as yyyy/mm/dd, so 9/11 would still be September 11 in Asia.

Though I don't understand the American system of mm/dd/yyyy, since it's hopping from the second smallest/largest unit, to the smallest, to the largest. Guh?
