[> Artificial Carriage Aids: Any competitor found to be using artificial carriage aids and subsequently refuses to remove the same will be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. Medically prescribed apparatus (proof of which will be required) will be exempt from this ruling. -- As Per the MAO syllabus:, 15:01:29 11/27/22 Sun (ool-18e43fa3.dyn.optonline.net/24.228.63.163)

Not using it ourselves but it was a debate side stage amongst parents.

Saw it in Cincinnati too. Not sure it constitutes cheating - definitely a slippery slope though. Not sure if they are all from the same school- but at least one of the dancers is from McGing.

[> No amount of KT tape is going to hold shoulders back in a meaningful way. This is clearly not what they mean by an artificial aid. -- NT, 10:35:27 11/28/22 Mon (d-23-245-194-38.oh.cpe.breezeline.net/23.245.194.38)

My dds school does not do stuff like this. But I am thinking that the tape could pull your skin if your shoulders start wobbling mid dance --- especially as you tire. And that tug would be like your TC yelling at you in practice to hold shoulders still or arms in. And maybe that is fit for practicing. But on actual competition days? This is absolutely an artificial carriage aid -- it is not the dancer using their own strength and training to maintain great carriage for their entire rounds. Maybe it is a subtle cheat but it sure as heck isnt there as a good luck thing! The parents or the school teachers obviously think it gives the dancers an advantage- and they are seeking it thru the *artificial addition* of medical tape hidden under the costume when there is no medical need. So please someone post the school name and next time request that it be removed.

[> [> [> [> I hope it was just some teens being dumb then.... -- Integrity Please!, 20:21:24 11/28/22 Mon (NoHost/76.150.164.234)

I hope it was girls making a sketchy impulsive choice then and not sanctioned by a school or TCRG. I especially hope it was not forced on or applied to younger girls by a super intense parent or teacher! If you see something that seems sketchy at a competition and you aren't sure you can also say it to a stage monitor and ask them to check the rule or ask dancers to remove/ show medical evidence. I love this crazy sport and we have so many positives but I think anyone can lose their way sometimes with the drive to achieve. And it is up to all the good people out there to help monitor and reign in each others worst impulses. I know most of is want this to be fun, safe, healthy, FAIR, and rewarding for our athletes....
