Subject: Joe Egg last week

I had the good fortune to see Joe Egg twice last week and thought it was a fantastic play. A mixture of humor and poignancy, two people in an unbearably sad situation, each coping the best they can. As a pediatric nurse, I have seen families in similar situations many times. And in my early teens, I watched my own parents go through this experience. I thought the play was dead-on accurate in describing what people do to survive under these circumstances. The actors' portrayal was realistic (not like some plays where you can "see" the acting). There was one scene where Bri (Eddie's character) was listening to his wife discuss possible care options for the child and he looked so hopeful, only to have that hope taken away just a few minutes later. Found myself going "ohhhh".

After the play one night, I had the opportunity to tell Victoria Hamilton and Eddie how well I thought they had portrayed the roles. Victoria gave credit to Nichols (the author) who lived the experience. But we know who it was that brought his words to life!

If Joe Egg is going to be shown on UK telly, I hope there will be some way to get a copy.
