AN AMERICAN IN CANADA: ROMANTIC COMEDY PREMIERES ON CBC TELEVISION, FRIDAY, JANUARY 18th AT 8:00 P.M.

AN AMERICAN IN CANADA, a one- hour romantic comedy, premieres on CBC Television on Friday, January 18th at 8:00 p.m.

Starring Rick Roberts of Traders and L.A. Doctors fame, AN AMERICAN IN CANADA has an inherent appeal for Canadians, who get to see themselves through the eyes of our American neighbours.

Jake Crewe (Roberts), rising star of Phoenix's number one television morning show, is fired for beating up his station manager. To his considerable chagrin, the only job he is offered is co-hosting Wake Up Calgary, the number three-rated morning show in a four-station market.

Appearing with Roberts is a stellar ensemble cast including veteran actor Timm Zemanek as the Calgary station manager who can't understand "why Americans always have to be number one." Canadian funnyman Stewart Francis is the current host of the show, who makes certain everyone knows that he is Wake Up Calgary; award-winning stage and screen scene-stealer Matthew Ferguson is Jake's flaky floor director; Kids In The Hall and Larry Sanders alumnus Scott Thompson is Jake's slippery L.A. agent; appealing Sugith Varughese is the donut shop worker who inadvertently adds to Jake's confusion; and accomplished charmer Helene Joy is the producer of Jake's show - she soon realizes that his romantic interest in her takes second place to his overwhelming ambition to snag an anchor job back in the U.S. and get the hell out of Calgary.

AN AMERICAN IN CANADA is a provocative comedy that takes a quirky and affectionate look at Canadians and our somewhat eccentric ways, illustrated by the reactions of a displaced American who finds Canada - and Canadians - strange and perplexing.

Produced by Yankee Doodle Productions through S&S Productions in association with CBC Television, AN AMERICAN IN CANADA is produced by Sari Friedland. The director is Shawn Alex Thompson and the creators are Jebb Fink and Howard Busgang, who is also the writer. Creative consultant is Steve Smith. Executive producers are David Smith and Howard Busgang.
