Subject: The Words

First, did anyone else see the Saturday Night Live skit on the bin Laden tape? I knew that they would do one, but was left scratching my head as to how they would make it *funny*. Well, they did--by pointing out that bin Laden, who is so eager to promote martyrdom among his followers, is himself so conspicuously alive. I say, let's not deny the man his martyrdom one minute longer!

Oh, what a scream--they just had Mayor Giuliani on "Weekend Update", and he was singing "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" with Jimmy and Tina (complete with her "Miss Liberty" crown and torch). He's such a good sport.

"It wasn't all a lie..."

Those were the words that I heard two weeks ago while watching...not LFN, but "The Agency", a show for which I have developed a fondness. It was in an episode called "Nocturne", which involved a deep cover female Al Qaeda operative who was getting cozy with Agency higher-up Jackson Haisley, played by Will Patton. He didn't report his involvement with her to the Agency when they first started dating, partly because the relationship was just developing, and partly because he wanted to delay putting her through the rather intensive (and intrusive) background check which would be required. He gets found out, and the background check begins, much to his annoyance and consternation. The Agency concocts a plot to expose her if she is indeed an agent, and she passes it with flying colors--only to be exposed in the end, rather painfully, by Jackson himself. It was nice to watch the conflict in emotions as he realized in growing horror that he had been consorting with a Qaeda operative, that he was going to lose a woman that he was starting to care about very much, and that he had to his job regardless. It was an interesting dilemma that would have fit very comfortably into an LFN episode. As the woman was being led away at the end, she said, without turning around, "It wasn't all a lie". Somehow, it didn't seem nearly as believable coming from her as it did from Michael. It sure was nice to hear the reference to LFN, though...it makes me think that LFN has had more friends in the creative community than we ever knew about.

It's rather well known that the show "The Agency" has a cooperative relationship with the CIA, which allowed the show to film some shots on location. What's less well known is that you can see actual Agency employees in some shots--but I'm assuming that you wouldn't see enough to identify them. One of the things that I like about the show is that it is good at developing quirky characters--probably the best of which so far has been "the nose"--the chemist who is in charge of reproducing scents. LFN often just showed us the finished product (such as Michael's I.D.), but "The Agency" shows how the product gets made and who makes it. It's an interesting avenue that LFN chose not to explore--just an example of how shows on similar themes can have a very different focus.

I caught that line also. I've also seen other shows where touches or guest stars who have appeared on LFN show up. It's always fun to play the "he/she was on LFN!"

The actor that played Bauer, my favorite SOTW, showed up on Alias last week. And I've seen the metal chair from the White Room on Mutant X, which is understandable seen most of the creative crew moved over there en masse. Gosh, I miss LFN!!!
