Captain Pike was originally played by Jeffrey Hunter, in the first Star Trek pilot, titled "The Cage". When that pilot wasn't picked up, they actually shot another pilot, called "Where No Man Has Gone Before", with the Captain we'd all come to know and imitate, Shatner.

They used the footage of the first pilot and created a two-part episode called "The Menagerie" with it, framing the original footage with a new storyline. That's the episode with the crippled Captain Pike, but because Jeffrey Hunter was off having a movie career, the guy in the wheelchair was played by Sean Kenney. And according to his listing at IMDB, he wasn't in Witchblade.

[> [> [> May I chime in??? Re: the Star Trek reference to Jeffrey Hunter? -- Petty, 16:38:37 08/29/01 Wed

Jeffrey Hunter was actually up for the part of Captain Kirk BUT his wife had too much to say on the matter (LOL). So he lost the part to William Shatner.

There was an old joke circulating on the Message Boards among Trekkers. It seems there were those who were so enamored of William Shatner (even tho even I like to poke fun at him) that when he was killed off in the 7th movie, there were those who thought he got a raw deal. To this day those fans (and Shatner) don't believe he's really dead.

Sorry, but I always have to chime in on any topic dealing with Star Trek!

[> [> [> [> Petty, I think I have some sympathy for the Shatner fans--they must have felt like Matthew's fans did when Birkoff bit the dust. I really would like to see TPTB think long and hard before they kill off beloved characters in a series. I really am looking forward to the new ST. Do any Trekkers out there have a preferred ST hangout on the web? -- Susan W, 23:52:13 09/01/01 Sat

I think it was a shame that they had to kill off Tinker's turtle so early in the show. :P

{{{ca-runch}}} Oops
