Subject: Tales of a Techno-Moron: The Saga Continues

Please pardon my venting here.......

Well, I finally got around to installing the CD-RW drive I bought, but not without more comic misadventures (though the did not seem very comic to yours truly at the time). Everything was going so smoothly when I put it in .... too smoothly, in fact. That should have been a dead giveaway that something was going to go wrong.

When everything was back together once more, I turned it on, an lo and behold! ---- the computer will not start at all. The power light was on, the fans were running, but the computer itself was as dead as the proverbial door-nail. No start up screen, not even a beep, and my new monitor kindly informing me that it was not getting a signal.

"Oh, how delightful!" I mused as I silently battled the rising urge to send the bloody thing hurtling through the nearest window.

I swear, I must have checked every cable, wire, chip and card on it. Nothing was loose, or seemed damaged or out of the ordinary in any shape, form, or fashion. After two hours of frustration, I finally broke down and called a local technician, who was kind enough to tell me a few things to try before going to the trouble of bringing it to him. All but one of these I had already attempted ….. turning the IDE cable from the CD-drives around the other way and plugging it back in. Which of course, I hadn't thought of since it looked the same when turned either way. Besides, something like the cable running from the CD drives couldn't knock out the entire system, could it?

I turned the cable around.

The damn thing comes to life.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and bang my head against the wall for a while………
