I was just watching the McD's AA Slam Dunk Contest last night. Those things are such a bore, but what's a hoops junky suffering withdrawals to do? Anyway, I was surprised at the number of those guys that UC recruited. No, Huggs didn't land any of them, but he gave some serious efforts for a lot of those guys. If you keep trying like that you will start getting some - the law of averages will shift. Two things must occur before this happens (IMHO): 1) UC just has to start getting deeper into the NCAAs in March and 2) Varsity Village must become complete - and look as nice as it's reported to be. You must be big, flashy, and successful in order to attract an 18 year-old's eye. And I don't mean past success or successful tradition - that only impresses old geezers like us. "What have you done lately" is the mode of thinking for youth. As great as Denny Crum was, Bob Huggins (and staff) are still far superior because of the effort they put forth recruiting so many high profile players. (Denny got a little tired toward the end of his career and didn't even bother with a lot of those high-end players). Our coaches work 12 months a year - just like every month were March. They do a hell of a job and have made a nice recovery with this year's class after a rather mediocre haul the year before. As soon as the aforementioned criteria are satisfied you can expect each year's haul to be excellent and to include the occasional McD's AA.

Now a word of caution: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Many of those McD's AAs are high-maintenance prima donnas who play selfishly and will abandon their university the second they feel they're ready for the big NBA jump.
