Plummer Impressive Again

WOLFEBORO, N.H. - Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith has a fistful of Division I prospects stowed away up here on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. But the most impressive so far this season? A little-known junior from Ohio.


Yet Another Impressive Weekend

After playing center for his high school team back in the Cincinnati suburb of Fairfield - and then exhausting his eligibility following his junior season - SF/PF Norm Plummer is now at Brewster trying to improve his perimeter skills and boost his overall stock.

The early results?

"He's exceeded all my expectations," Smith said this weekend. "He had never left the paint before he got here. Now he can step out and knock down the three. He's got a chance to play at the highest level."

His stats have been impressive. How impressive? Try six-games-over-30-points impressive. But the 6-7, 208-pounder still is doing most of his damage around the basket, where he's a relentless offensive rebounder as well as an effective finisher.

Plummer capped a super weekend Sunday afternoon in scoring an even 30 in leading Brewster to a 121-114 overtime win over Fitchburg (MA) Notre Dame Prep in the Brewster Classic final.

He also scored an aggregate 56 points in two games in the Friday-Saturday Brewster Invitational. Then he went for 27 Saturday night against Braintree (MA) Thayer in the opening round of the Brewster Classic.

Total tally for the weekend? Three days, four games, 113 points - and, oh yes, one tourney title. Not bad. Especially for a kid who three months ago wasn't so hot on his New Hampshire digs.

"When I first got here, I hated it," Plummer said. "We're in the middle of nowhere out here. But it's OK now. It's the best decision I've ever made because it's going to give me more opportunities."

Showing the most interest right now are Wyoming, Iowa State, Ohio State, Providence and Duquesne. Some MAC schools that were recruiting him already last year - Miami, Ohio, Toledo and Butler - are still keeping tabs.

"It'd be nice to go back home," Plummer said. "But I'll go anywhere I can play basketball."
