I'd never travel alone like we did before. We went through the desert to Coober Peedy before the road was surfaced and NEVER again. We didn't see anyone for hours at a time. We got a flat tyre in the Range Rover when it was about 45 degrees. Flies buzzing everywhere and I wouldn't let Jan turn back so went on to Mount Isa, Uluroo, Townsville, Cairns, then back through the Whitsundays to Noosa. Down to Brisbane and then slowly headed back to Melbourne. After Milat's stint I'd never do it again. Our kids were young then too and you just never know. See, young and stupid Jack! lol. It was a great trip and once again met lots of interesting people along the way. We kept bumping into the same German tourists in the parks we stayed in. After the stint in Alice Springs our dash board was all warped from the sun. It's as hot as hell up North and we went through the wet season and the car was wreck when he got back. Red dust everywhere, wrecked dashboard , chips in the windscreen. I still have all the photos of that trip. Our kids playing with the Aboriginal's kids. The Aboriginal's kids were blonder than ours. Filthy though lol.
I'd hate to have met the guys you met with the guns lol. We saw lots of burnt out cars and things when we went. We figured it was too expensive to get a tow truck out there lol. Glad we made it because at times like you I was beginning to wonder.
