As everybody can see, there is something wrong with these numbers. I believe the figures from the French Music site are accurate because they promote the whole french record industry, not only one artist. They are also published on other sites like www.disqeenfrance.com. On the one hand that means that most of the sales quoted for promotional purposes are gross exaggerations (especially the 1 million sales worldwide) and on the other hand sales in the important markets USA(for Snow...), UK, Germany and Japan are obviously rather low. Considering how many CDs non-US artists have to sell worldwide before they're given a chance on a major company in the US it is extremely unlikely that Chrysalis will ever get a proper US release. You would need worldwide sociological studies to prove it is true. And in my country, and elsewhere in Europe, no teen below 16 can legally work and earn money, so it would be difficult for them to spend the $150 a month I spend on CDs. But I imagine you are right on this : teens did make Britney Spears famous. But not Anggun. Whereas her songs are more interesting. Finally, teens accept with difficulty evolution in their fav singer music : Anggun did say she left Indonesia also because she felt she would'nt be accepted with a new style. I did say we need a study lead in each country. No you MAY be right, I'm asking for prooves for I doubt it, based on the knowledge of the common behaviour of teens in my country.
