This is my view. If you are short, with dark color skin and has kinky hair, you could be an original Filipino, or a native Filipino, or a Negrito-Filipino.

If you do not look like the above description, then you are a mestizo/mestiza, with Malayan, Chinese, Indian, Arab, Spanish, American, or European blood in you veins. Malayan or Chinese blood mix is common, based on the looks of many Filipinos. So the Philippines is a nation of half bloods.

Could this be a reason why Filipinos are difficult to unite, and have difficulty to possess a single identity?

Most of the US based Filipinos do not know whether their ancestors in the Philippines do have Spanish ancestry.The fact is, there are more Mestizas in the Philippines than in the US. Most of brown, flatnose pinoys had to migrate out of the Philippines because their looks wouldn't elevate their status there.
