Subject: Aww come on you gals....

Give us some news-what is your weather like this time of year..how cold is it? Does anything grow this time of year..what are the children doing? Do you do hobbies this time of year? Tell us if there are any wild critters in your neighborhoods..tell us something..you are our window on Australia..Phyllis and I live hundreds of miles apart but have similar weather..what she gets we usually get a few days later. We are in a real hot time right now 30 cels..and it is the kind of heat I try to keep myself out of by staying in the lake as much as possible.Heat and I don't get along very well but I am glad it is hot because the lake and ocean waters are beautifully warm right now.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be real hot but one of my daughter-in-laws and I are having a yard sale at a friends yard where lots of traffic goes by.My street is too quiet..one could wait an hour for a car to go past.
I am going to look in here Sunday and by golly I hope someone has something to say-lol

Hi Tina and missing other contributors,

Tina,

I hope your yard sell went well. Our weather is slightly cooler today and less humidity. We are in store for some cooler weather which is fine with me. How far is it to the nearest beach or lake from where you live? I do not like the humid weather but at least with air conditioner it is not too bad.

I guess everyone must be extra busy as we do miss hearing from others to get news how everyone is doing. I guess us retired people can spend more time on the computer during the day. I always try to get on at least once a day or if extra busy every 2 days.

My time to Maine (the beach) was a lot of fun. We did not arrive at the beach until around noon time as my friend Nancy is not a morning person. She is a night owl, just the opposite from me. It was very crowded but we paid to park in a nearby parking lot so we could not have to worry about the parking meter. The sun was very hot as there was not a cloud in the sky. I had a small umbrella attached to my lawn chair as this was the first time I had been in the direct sunlight this year. I used 30 sunscreen and after l/2 an hour in the hot sun I covered up for a while, (age brings wisdom). I am happy to report that I did not get sunburned at all. The water was so refreshing but the sand was too hot on the way to the water from our spot on the beach. It was high tide.

We left the beach around 4:00 and then went to do some shopping at the gift shops. We stopped for supper and then went to visit some friends of mine who live at their year round home on the beach. They had their home built to their specifications. It has 3 floors and a large front open porch with a view of the beach. Their yard is surrounded by colorful flowers. It was absolutely breathtaking to view this beach home. This was the first time that I have visited them.

We visited for a short while, then headed back home. It is about 1 l/2 hours travel time. On the way home we stopped at a dairy bar (they make their own ice cream) for a kiddie cone, which consisted of 2 large scoops. We did not arrive home until 10:00 p.m. My sister & daughter took care of Rufus for the day. When I came in the door, he started barking as if to say, "where has you been all day". I gave him a treat and he settled down after sniffing my beach bag.

I am meeting my sister in a couple of hours as we are going to visit another neighbor who has 2 young children. I'm sure that will keep us entertained.

Hope to hear from everyone else soon as Tina & I miss reading about your adventures.

Best wishes to all.
Phyllis

We are only minutes from the ocean in one direction and minutes from lakes in another direction.Real hot days we swim in the ocean-just hot we swim at the lake..I have a 35 foot trailer at a big lake 15 minutes drive from home,it has air conditioning in it - I go up ,change into swimwear-dive in the lake.AHHH wonderful.
I spent a few days at Old Orchard Beach in Maine but that was 9 years ago.Wonderful spot.My daughter Cynthia and I rented a cottage right on the beach. They had concessions on a peir or is it pier-lol ,,right by the beach..there were also some small false store fronts where a movie was made. Then we drove down the coast to Cape Cod.Wonderful trip.
So glad you got on your trip.

Tina,

Sounds like you will have a very busy weekend with your granddaughter and keeping up with all the pets. I'm sure it will be lots of fun and entertaining.

We used to vacation at Old Orchard Beach when I was growing up as my father's relatives owned cabins there. I have some great memories. I remember the pier and the merry- go-round and also riding in a cart that was pulled by a donkey. The french fries that they sold from the pier were awesome. I also went to Cape Cod many years ago and enjoyed their beach too.

You are forunate to be so near to the beach and lake. A trailer with air conditioning, how great!

We are having beautiful cool weather today. I am bringing a pizza over to my old office to have lunch with a couple of my former co-workers today.

Have a good weekend.

Phyllis

Whow, you are getting BOSSY Miss Tina. I did write a message earlier today, but looks like the darn thing didn't go thru! Well, it is very COLD and WET here, but I guess that is okay, because we really need the rain, but by now I would like to see a little sunshine. Because I live in the suburbs,Tina.. only about 5 miles out of Melbourne city we don't have many 'wild critters' around, unless you count my cats and my really fierce goldfish!
There are lots of different birds tho.. Australian native birds, such as magpies, wattlebirds and the gorgeous rainbow lorrikeets, a small parrot, and well named as they have all sorts of colors on them, red, blue, purple, green, yellow. We also have birds like doves, sparrows, crows, and in the summer I've sometimes seen tiny lizards sunbaking on my balcony. That's about it for local wildlife!
Today I went for lunch with my daughter at the Bistro at the college she attends. The bistro is staffed by learning hospitality students. and is really nice, white tablecloths, sparkling glassware etc. And so reasoanbly priced! We both had a potato pancake, topped with salmon, a poached egg and hollandaise sauce, for only $7 each. Now tonight I've just got home from our monthly writers meeting.
Hugs,
Ellie.

How I would like to see the colorful birds you have.Rainbow lorrikeets sound like they would be a joy to watch.Even tiny lizards would be fun.Nature amazes me.
Your meal sounds wonderful. They do the same thing"reasonable priced meals" at our local college in Bridgewater..15 minute drive from here.
Belonging to a monthly or any writers group must be so interesting. As I age I make so many spelling mistakes that they would have a hoot with me_lol
This week-end I have My 8 yr old granddaughter, her golden retreiver Scoobie Doo and her pet hedgehog Scruffy all staying with me while her parents go on a bike trip. They have Harleys..the bikes that are known as hogs-lol
Remember I have 3 dogs and 3 budgies and 4 love birds so this place will once again seem like a zoo for a few days.

Hi Ellie,

It was good to read about your weather and to hear the description of the beautiful Australian birds. I know of a couple of my neighbors who are birdwatchers and they belong to an organization that is active in observing the birds.

What a good deal on lunch and most important to share it with a loved one. My daughter and I often go out for lunch on her days off from work in between our shopping adventures. She works flex time (extra hours) and then gets every other Monday off. It's great for her as it allows her time to catch up on things.

My youngest sister, Shirley is a writer and I am the opposite, I really do not like to write and if I ask her to review something important, she always changes it. I really don't mind her suggestions as I value her opinion. She is a great sister and lives within walking distance of my house. She and her husband celebrated their 26th anniversary yesterday and I had them over for supper and we had ice cream cake for dessert.

Hope you have a good weekend. Please stay in touch.

Phyllis
