Subject: Former winners ..

I am sitting at home watching some of the old Miss NC videos on YouTube. No offense to all of the young women who won and served us well, but NC has left some amazing first runners-ups standing on our stage who could have made top five and frankly, won Miss America.

I am stunned and wonder what the judges could have been thinking. Some of the young women who won Miss NC yes, should have made top 10, bhut frankly should have never been in Top five.

Not saying a pageant was fixed, but let's be real, let's agree that all it takes is an ED and committee who favors a contestant and auditors the state committee uses FROM THE SAME FIRM each year. Think about it!

With that, EDs should be changed out every three years and no auditors who have served or worked previously under an ED should be allowed to tabulate. Judges are brought in from all over the country, auditors should be no different.

The board most definitely favors certain committees. The state board also gets to choose the judges. It just takes one judge with an agenda to throw everything off. That’s why the top 5 (and even the top 10) can sometimes seem suspicious. I’m not sure how you can change the local ED’s out every three years, that would be difficult. But, we do need new state board members. Not that the current ones haven’t done well at times but we have an aging state board. They know too many people “in the business” and choose their judges from their friends and acquaintances. Until leadership changes, these problems will persist. Definitely compete if you want but don’t expect different outcomes because they keep “picking” the wrong girl. (NT)No name12:27:45 01/04/26 Sun
I don't want to see any tabulation errors. So I like that the auditors are the same each year. You need someone who understands the scoring system, how high and low scores are dropped, how to fill out a card for the emcee. You don't want a rookie doing that important of a job. And the auditors really don't mingle with the state committee or judges throughout the week. They just come in for the show. (NT)No name10:38:22 01/05/26 Mon
There were lots of times the first runner up would have been the better choice to compete at Miss America, but not necessarily the best to be Miss NC for a year. (NT)No name07:32:29 01/06/26 Tue
A few of the ones that got away: Kensley Leonard, Michelle Braxton, and Chesli Kryst (NT)No name14:20:48 01/06/26 Tue
Patricia O’Quinn definitely (NT)No name18:40:52 01/06/26 Tue
Agree with these, but who got away in the last couple of years… (NT)No name04:30:17 01/08/26 Thu
Back in the 1970's, 1980's and early 1990's contestants were much stronger overall than they are today. You never knew who would make Top Ten, Top Five or win. I wonder how some of our recent Miss NC's would fare against the contestants of the past? (NT)No name09:58:52 01/12/26 Mon
I do think the nc board needs a complete overhaul. Allyoops for buddies & friends is getting us nowhere. Needed desperately is fresh blood and younger faces not meaning Paige who is a racist bigot but her mom is friends with the board so there is that. It's the same circus and the same clowns that will run the show. Picking judges who align with their bias' and agendas'. I did not agree with 1/2 of the top 10 & top 5 in both teen and miss. A sixth judge and the results would have been different. Removing the highest & lowest scores means only three people really determined who won another viewpoint would be a good way of adding more perspective. MAO should oversee judges' selection in each state and a mandatory number of judges that is the national standard. Auditors just fill in numbers on a computer while the other tabulates the score by hand. Having the same auditors isn't the issue you ideally want someone who knows what they are doing.
