Although a wonderful program that brings lots of joy to many young women and their families, Miss NC is no longer relevant! People are not going to pay for her to make appearances like they used to. She is lovely, talented and very bright, but beauty queens (which no matter what you call it, that is what the general public view her as) are no longer an attraction for most people. Now, you bring in a reality show star, an influencer or an accomplished athlete, then you'll be in a better place to ask for an appearance fee. The organization has made concessions that align with this new model. Miss NC is no longer required to leave school and work full time as Miss NC. The board understands that she can't pay the bills doing Miss NC appearances. So, crown a queen and celebrate the tradition, but let go off the idea that the title automatically makes her a known celebrity. See you in JUne! Subject Author Date I agree. Even Miss America does not make the kind of bank she used to. The main reward is to be able to say that you were Miss State and either competed or won Miss America. However, another option to produce income deriving appearances would be to align with a sponsor that would make Miss NC their official spokesperson and be able to wrangle some sort of renumeration for that. Again, this is what the business manager should be doing and the smart thing would be to find one that would stick around year to year regardless of who wins simply because their mission and/or vision as a company aligns with the goals and mission of the MAO. Then, the business manager should find one based on who wins - her platform, her talent, her interests, etc. A company with which the new Miss NC would align and be a good fit. It's not hard, it just takes some thought and effort. And therein lies the problem. Let these stores start booking and paying professional models to shill for their stores and they will see what a bargain they are getting. Plus, since most of these gown stores do a big business in pageant wear, they are getting the extra cache of the Miss NC title that not even a professional model could bring. And yes, these girls work long and hard to win the Miss NC title. There should definitely be benefits to winning the crown. There should be a car, apartment, and appearance fees. That's why you enter a competition. Because there are prizes for the winner. That's the very point of a competition.
