Most Southern states, especially TX, take care of their queen better than Miss America seems to. There are a lot of perks and appearances for sponsors. Some states, the queen is lucky to get gas money. That's why certain states are easy to win If you just want a ticket to Miss America, compete a few years in a competitive state, then go to WY, ID, NV, or some of the New England states. But stay away from New Hampshire. NH has a very strong program with lots of locals and sponsor support. I don't know why they never do that well at Miss America . Having tens of thousands or millions of followers on social media doesn't necessarily mean success if you are trying to speak to the young women in our state high schools and universities and grow the Miss NC program. The truth is there simply aren't that many girls in NC that can and would be willing to participate in a pageant system of any type, much less one that requires a good talent for economic success. So the other option is to grow the social media presence to generate valuable revenue that can then be used as scholarship dollars. Again that is a challenge for a program that turns over the "star of the show" every year. Successful channels are hosted by a successful host that creates that following and maintains it year after year. So I'm not sure that strategy will work. The reason people watch a TV show or social media channel is because of the host or leading actor.. That fee structure compensated the Business Manager for their time, encouraged commission based sales from the Business Manager, and is similar to the rate structure of any modeling or talent agency booker. Not everything within a nonprofit has to be volunteer. There are plenty of paid positions within various nonprofit organizations. I've never understood why Miss America feels that everyone should be uncompensated. Perhaps that is one of it's failures. Again, this is what the business manager should be doing and the smart thing would be to find one that would stick around year to year regardless of who wins simply because their mission and/or vision as a company aligns with the goals and mission of the MAO. Then, the business manager should find one based on who wins - her platform, her talent, her interests, etc. A company with which the new Miss NC would align and be a good fit. And yes, these girls work long and hard to win the Miss NC title. There should definitely be benefits to winning the crown. There should be a car, apartment, and appearance fees.
