Subject: Close Offered Pacific Job!

Excerpt from John Zant's article (today's Sb News Press):

"* Close call: UCSB women's basketball associate head
coach Cori Close is wrestling with a tough decision. She
has been offered the head coach's job at the University of
Pacific. She requested a few days to decide whether to
take it. Part of her wants to see if she can go deep into
the NCAA tournament with the Gauchos in the next year or
two. Part of her wants to put her abilities to the test at
the supreme level of a Division I head coaching job. Close
said she was impressed by the level of commitment to
women's basketball at Pacific. "I'm honored that they
would think I'm capable of taking over that program," she
said. The Tigers faced UCSB in this year's Big West
tournament championship game. Coach Sherrie Murrell
left to take the Washington State job."

I want her to stay at UCSB, but if she is going to go, I
would much prefer it be a Big West School, and what better
school than Pacific. I think she would make a great Tiger
Coach and keep the team moving in the direction started by
Coach Murrell.

Let's all hope for a stronger Big West in the near future.

We should get the news sometime next week.

p.s. Selena was my favorite non-Gaucho player in the Big
West. She did Pacific proud!
