(there I go hitting below the belt again) -- it is perfectly clear what he meant by his comment. There isn't a single person out there, on both sides of the debate, that are professing to believe he meant deficit reduction.

As I said, there are some, certainly not all, but some Republicans that have made their careers by nudging and winking at Southern Conservatives. Give them Pickering on the bench. Go talk at Bob Jones University. Plant rumors in SC that McCain has a black love child. Perhaps these guys are really racist or perhaps they are being pragmatic in paying lip service/using code words to keep the racists in the tent. It's actually immaterial. You live by the sword. You die by the sword.
