Hi,
Im looking for a hand here, I am a supervisor within an engineering company. I am not dyslexic but I work with people who are. We work with numbers and sizes all the time and to very accurate tolerances. This can create some difficult situations for people, for example heres two numbers 3113 and 3131 even for me a mistake could be made here and either one or both end up wrong never mind if I was dyslexic.
Basically I would like to know what I can do to help, can I present things differently or change colour formats on drawings from the regular black and white?
Any advice or help is welcome, I can only apologise for my ignorance regarding this but would like to fix that.

Hi Gordon,
I am a machinist that suffered with dyslexia all my life. What I would do is highlight the specification with different colors highlighters. This would work pretty well for me. In addition, I would write the measurement down and verify it back to the specification in the drawings.

Hi,
Thanks for the response, the colour theme will work well for me I think. Unfortunately I can't modify the drawings in any way but can highlight the digits seperately.
The advice you have given is most appreciated.

Try color coding common letters and numbers.
sometimes size helps also Im sure your know a picture makes a thousand words also we are not dumb just different.
once we get it we really get it

That is a wonderful question; I am happy to hear that you have recognized this little thing has such a large impact on your business and are willing to find a solution.
I am an alternative learner; I can see words in pictures and have a photographic memory, but I can not read the same way as most of the population.

I use the pattern of the numbers on a key pad instead of remembering the numbers themselves but there is still a change for mistake because a telephone has a different pattern then a keyboard and calculator. I think that it is a matter of using colour and creating a code that will enhance the most important detail. Even a picture a head that expresses a heads-up will provide an alert

“Instant symbols” is a tool option in most writing programs that has a load of symbols and ideas just waiting to be discovered

Good luck
