Throughout the large, mountainous territory, deer wander through the forests and meadows. They seem either single animals or in pairs, mostly of middle or older ages. The youths having all migrated towards a more southern area. The adults are mainly healthy, and seem peaceful, as breeding season was perhaps a month off or so. As the snow melts, many can be seen grouping about creeks and mountain streams, enjoying the upcoming spring.

The semi-large caribou herd walked along till they found good grass. They were all females. They all grazed for awhile then a few went to drink from a nearby stream.

3 caribou are at the stream
4 caribou are grazing
2 caribou are keeping watch
1 caribou is laying down (sick)

The younger group of deer finds shelter in the woods beside the creek, and though snow still covers the ground, buds are seen upon the branches of trees, no longer heavy with snow.

On the eastern side of the river, deer gather in vast groups. There are more here than in any other territory. They seem at peace with the lack of wolves, and drink to great health. The season of plenty approaches. A few yearlings leap about, spraying mud over the new plants in their dance.
No disease is noticable, though a few have small wounds or limps barely seen

Lank frame of the scrawny doe wandered idly through the desolate marshlands, nibbling unconsciously at the tall grasses she passed, unawares of anything around she.
