Subject: The clrg will have to follow Irish law as it is an irish registered organisation. The clrg have been following the Gender Recognition Act which was passed in 2015 in Ireland which gives people the right to self identify.

Schools in Ireland are not allowed to discriminate in classrooms, arts, or sports. Only few high level sporting bodies have been able to change certain policies, but Irish dancing is not considered a sport in Ireland. Ultimately the clrg decisions will be completely based on what they legally have to follow. Everyone can have their personal opinion but this decision will come down the the law in Ireland. The largest sporting organisation in Ireland is the GAA and they also have people playing on teams across genders. I feel a good solution is to provide and extra qualifier in cases or tie the corresponding girl/boy with the trans dancer in results so it doesn’t affect the biological genders results.

Snippets from Irish law:

“That’s because, in the Republic of Ireland, self-identification has been a reality since the country passed its Gender Recognition Act (GRA) in 2015. “

8. Single-gender activities: Transgender students should be included in the gender group that matches their identity, when it comes to single- gender identity, such as SPHE.

9. Physical education and sports: Transgender students should be encouraged and enabled to participate fully in physical education and the sports - in the gender they identify with. This may be more complicated depending upon the specific sport and league and negotiations may be required (contact sports).
