We had to cancel our oirechtas hotel - months before the competiton - the hotel took four nights of the deposit b/c we had two rooms and wouldn't budge an inch. Granted this was an independent hotel, not a chain like marriott...

If you cancel - the rooms won't go back in the block. Lots of people are still in need of rooms in the block at the host hotel and nearby in National Harbor.

We were able to transfer reservations easily when it was Marriott... what dates are you looking to get rid of and what hotel?
