Subject: Because that would be against the rules! Random is Random
In reply to: so disappointing, IDTANA! 's message, "Absolutely ridiculous - very lopsided. Doesn't mean there was cheating but did no one manually check the splits? Even if the only requirement is WMH why wouldn't they sanity check for prior NANS and full Worlds placements?" on 09:50:03 06/13/25 Fri

Since you have been on so many message boards about this and the fact that this is mostly about the U11 splits, my guess is that you haven't been at this very long (U11 young dancer age). Let me offer you some unsolicited advice from a Mom that has been doing this for 18 years. THe splits for Nan's are RANDOM with the ONLY exception being the world medal holders. World medal holders are split between the 2 or 3 splits as even as possible. In the past, this was not even done so you could end up with all WMH's in one split! Splitting the WMH'S was a recent addition in 2023. Prior to the random splits, it used to be done by age. The older half was A and the younger was B. When that was the case, some groups had all the Oireachtas champs in the same split YEAR after YEAR and people really thought that sucked so they changed it to random. THis way, every year you RANDOMLY get different dancers in your group. Some years the splits are pretty good, sometimes your own is LOADED. My daughter and I laugh because wouldn't you know that she always seems to be in the harder split..lol ;) THe goal of the randomness is not to make the groups fair or even, but random. I'm sure you've been on these message boards enough to read about the cheating... Imagine if whoever was in charge would split the groups manually to make them more "fair"? The ability to put specific dancers not with others to give an advantage would so easily be possible! Furthermore, if you are from the MidAm region and you are used to the way they do splits for O, that is more fair and even. HOwever,it's just not done this way for Nan's and it won't be because that's what random is. Either way, best of luck to you and your dancer. I can also tell you from personal experience that when my daughter has danced in what seems an impossible split, she has placed better sometimes than when she happens to get lucky with an easier split. Just have her go out there and do her best on the day and know that you will have different dancers next year and sometimes you just get lucky!
