I've been involved in Irish dance for many years. I know enough about it to "form an opinion". Although the opinion I'm stating, "People should follow the rules in a competition"...doesn't take a lots of specific knowledge.

I also Follow Baseball, even though I've never EVER played baseball. I think baseball teams should "follow the rules" too, and sometimes have opinions about what happens during a game.

I assure you I never was, nor will be an Olympian, but I follow some Olympic sports enthusiastically, and it is important to me that the athletes and judges follow the rules there.

I think that low income children should get a free lunch at school, even though neither myself or my kids were in need of a free lunch. (just throwing that in as an example of things I care about, that don't directly effect me - not trying to start a political debate).

You see, people can have opinions about things that don't DIRECTLY influence them at that moment. I think most people do.

I especially understand that adult dancers who devote a lot of time, effort and money to competition dancing would want fair results. Why wouldn't they??

Again: If someone wants to compete just for the "experience", then AWESOME! Go for it. If someone else wants to try to win the thing (or improve their placement, etc) then that's a great goal as well. I support both approaches to Adult Irish Dancing.

It is baffling to me that posters here get "attacked" when they post something that basically means, "Dancers should have to follow the rules of the competition". Especially in an adult competition, when it isn't the case of some young child simply doing what their parent or teacher has told them to do. These are adults, who can read the rules and make their own decisions. Aren't the rules pretty specific? Why the debate?
