Author: Education is powerful
Subject: First, you need to learn history. Second, claiming a heritage or ancestry does not equal a want to be. Simply heritage and ancestry. Same applies to those of German, which happens to been one of the largest ancestry of most Americans, AND even more so, British ancestry, which is also greater than Irish. Nothing reprehensible about rules and guides.
In reply to: . 's message, "Have you never heard the saying "1 in 3 claim to be Irish"? There's something particularly reprehensible about a nation of immigrants deciding to pull the ladder up behind them to appease billionaires." on 08:19:48 04/04/26 Sat

In the late 1800's onwards, there were quotas imposed by the US - just like every other nation today. Check your history.

The US is supposed to have legal immigration capped at 650,000 individuals; however, all of that was overlooked and completely ignored by some parties seeking to allow more. In the 1960s, there was a change to allow fewer European and to increase those of smaller nations. There are standards to follow, should one wish to follow the law (and apparently, there are many who scoff the laws established, looking at this thread - and would bet those are also ones who think those cheating judges and teachers are just fine continuing to run this whole mess of Irish dance)
Some data for you:
The UK caps worker visas at 20,700.
Australia caps at 185,000 - and is far stricter than US, yet no-one bickers about them, do they?
France has increased its standards for immigration, requiring specific education and language learning, along with requiring specific deposits by individuals immigrating
China, extremely difficult to obtain status, no employment, 30 day limited visa, to immigrate there requires substantial monetary investment

How is any of this different than what the US always had in place, but ignored for a period of four years? It is sad that folks depend on whatever media source and NEVER bother to dive into the actual facts that are out there and just spout tripe.
