You are exactly right, well said!!!. Unfortunately this is now the standard of what Irish dancing has become and bizarre choreography which borders contemporary and strays very far from Irish dancing is considered peak. Dare I say one particular world champ started this trend and it was idolised - others copied the “Goat”. Plenty of examples on Instagram such as a stunning Lodge Road which didn’t even place top 10 and as mentioned by others in comments. Sad to see and so much is now open to interpretation. Who knows where to even start anymore as a dancer. I hope we go back to an involved jig rather than bouncing on a toe, pausing for 3 seconds and flicking our leg back like a horse either side. Bring back rhythm 2026.
