The emergency room was bustling with activity even before the ambulance carrying her showed up - but he was oblivious. From the moment her stretcher was set on the ground until she was wheeled into a room and doctors and other medical staff started closing in, he held her hand and murmured almost incoherently - but was completely unaware of what he was saying and where the words were coming from. All he hoped was that maybe she wouldn't leave him if he didn't leave her, and that was the most important thing he had ever had to face in his life - he couldn't lose her, it was as simple as that. He was vaguely aware of staff telling him quietly that he would have to leave now because they needed their space, but it wasn't until a large male nurse ushered him out with a little gentle physical force that he finally left - promising Bailey countless times on his way that he wasn't going anywhere and would be right there waiting. Body and mind numb, but his heart screaming in anguish, he allowed the other man to set him down on a chair in the waiting room. And there he remained - on the edge of the seat, jeans and still-bare chest smeared with darkening blood, elbows on his knees and head bowed and in his hands. Sometime, a nurse stopped by to drape a blanket over his shoulders - but he never noticed her...
