Subject: D VD Review: Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust

Having seen the first Vampire Hunter D film, which was from the mid 80s, and although I liked it, also thought there was something lacking -- I nonetheless decided to get the new movie as it was released this week.

I have to say I liked the new one better than the first. It is not your typical Vampire story, and it certainly assumes familiarity with D to some degree.

As I read someone else describe the series, and I think best describes what one should expect, it is like a Clint-Eastwood Western turned into Vampire-Anime. D is certainly a Clint Eastwood kind of hero, who has his own motivation and foibles -- and his own, dark interior side. Nonetheless, he also is shown to have compassion for others, and a great sense of honor -- even for those who he is fighting against (as is shown in this movie).

I would certainly recommend the movie, but it isn't your typical vampire storyline. It has many of the elements, but mixing the style with a western approach, certainly makes it a unique storyline (even if it isn't as classic as Dracula).
