Let me start on a light note. The Lutherans are basically a watered down version of Catholicism when it comes to services. I can remember much standing, sitting, standing, recitation of catechism verses, hymns, and amens. Not really all that exciting. Lutherans could probably do with a little jazzing up, but that is why they attract only the most middle of the road people. Most Lutherans are pretty conservative and middle class. In a nutshell, they don't want to rock the boat and they don't want you to rock their spiritual boat either, for matters of the spirit are rather discomforting to them!

As for the World Trade Center bombing... You claim that my argument is absurd, yet I would like to defend it. When we have one group who believes that their religion is superior to all other religions and that the infidels must die, we have the ingredients for violence on a scale on par with the Inquisitions and so on. Christianity, as you know, is not without its hatred and violence. This is the volatile problem with men who think themselves above others just because of a belief. This is just what brought about the Crusades and the Inquisition and the Witch Trials.

I was not saying that this man was ready to strap dynamite to his chest and run into a mosque. On the other hand, the ingredients for violence are all there. In fact, one might point to crime against gays and abortion clinic bombings as being the outgrowth of Christian doctrines implanted in unstable and fearful minds. Are the Lutherans going to storm the world for their faith? Doubtful. Are the "so-called" Christians who are Christians out of fear? That has already been seen. Crimes are commited in the name of the Christian god every day. All I am saying is that when we choose to cling to beliefs of this kind and in some sense hold ourselves to be morally superior, we mix up the ingredients for possible violence towards those who do not agree with us. It is a fact of life. In some sense, religious belief demands a certain disdain toward other opposing belief systems. In this is always the possibility for violent action.
