I just read where a F-16 fighter jet crashed into a Cessna 150 over South Carolina. Tragically, the two people on board the Cessna were killed. The jet pilot was able to eject but his plane crash landed. The F-16 weighs 10 tons while the Cessna tips the scales at 1500 pounds.

The 150 is the model of airplane that JennLynn Swift first owned and flew in "Magic Carpet".

There was a novel (Airport maybe?) where part of the plot involved an air traffic controller's PTSD, caused by him being on duty when an Air National Guard pilot doing unauthorized acrobatics hit a small private plane. Everyone on board the private plane were killed, while the jet jockey punched out and survived. I was probably a teenager when I read it, so I may have some of the details wrong. Even so, it sounds like the same situation.
