There was a historical note in my local paper about a 'fresh water fury' on November 13, 1918 where 8 ships sank on the Great Lakes. Approximately 200 sailors were lost in the storm. It is amazing you do not hear more about that storm, but the Edmund Fitzgerald is more of our era. There are not many people alive that were alive then and fewer still those that could remember it. Maybe in another 60 years the Fitzgerald will almost be forgotten too.
