Also Frank Oldfield (Nashville-Murray) - Blue Beauty.

None of these (except those responsible for the WTC) match Joel, imho

Unlike Joel (yet), Frank reformed. He sent a sincere apology to Jennifer from jail, and is referred (by implication, not name) much later as an old Nashville connection of Jennifer's.

Trey was doing sound engineering on Bluegrass music Frank had recorded at music festivals, if I recall correctly.

Of course, he was never a total villain. We saw a little of Frank's viewpoint, and his repentance.

We've never seen Joel from the inside, and I have little desire to do so. Given his actions, he's very lucky Randy didn't follow through on the "bridge" threat. And it wouldn't have seemed any more than mildly excessive if he had.

the problem I always had with the bridge threat was, depending on the size of the abutments, wouldn't it put the long-term structural integrity of the concrete at risk? While it's practical from a short-term objective, it wouldn't look good for Clark Construction for the long-term...

We did see a little bit into his mind in chapter 27. The impression I got was the that the only "good" quality Joel had was that he was no hypocrite (he was who we thought he was.)

If Randy had used the "bridge" threat then the hole made for the abutment that became Joel's final resting place would be a lot larger than the others - he would make sure of that.

Not if done right, they just put in extra reinforcing than is normally required. The extra strength makes up for Joel. Randy could even spread him about by cutting in up a bit.

I find the mental image of Randy using a machete or saw to dismember his brother-in-law . . . disturbing. As if Wes had been possessed by Steven King after a night of heavy drinking while watching "Psycho".

Not that it would be *undeserved*, mind you. But it would be hard to view Randy in quite the same way again. I'd be worrying about him giving the same treatment to the troublesome school inspector, rent-seeking union reps, perhaps helping Crystal dispose of Tanisha's jerk brother . . .

I can see fanfiction with alternate endings of Dawnwalker, Growing Together, etc. Of course, that would leave no place for redemption of Pete Chladek and Nanci, as they would all be resting in anonymous peace...

Speaking of Pete, I can't see him enjoying a Canyon Tours trip - but I can see him moving closer to his kids and grandkids after he retires.

Nanci I always thought of as just being on the extreme edge of an otherwise good kid after they first leave their nest. Pete was seen as closer to a villain but still was more towards "nuts" than evil in my opinion (after Dawnwalker - we saw why in Growing together.)
