Gina, clearly i have opened up a Pandora's box yet again, i already told you that i don't want to argue but when you openly support someone like Jon Voight and then turn around and say you're against extremes, i am a little confused because what Voight was saying is quite extreme conservative thinking. It's not the happy "in-between land" that you claim to be such a fan of, sorry. So if a lot of what you're saying supports him, then i'm afraid you've already picked a side, you're not "middle ground", as wonderful as that last paragraph sounded. You can't have your cake and eat it too :)
I don't claim to be extreme liberal either though, i try to stay out of politics altogether, just like i try to stay out of religion. Never leads anywhere to pick sides. But for the record, if you've ever watched Jon Stewart's show, you would know that he's the first one to poke fun at conservatives for their lack of wordliness, that's the true word here WORLDLINESS. it's not so much the intellect or someone not being educated enough, it's just that the majority of these people are perfectly content never having left their hometowns their entire life yet they think they know what is good for this country and i am sorry but one just can't gain perspectives by not being exposed to other cultures, to different ideas and ways of life. Say what you will about liberals but I have yet to see a similar program to the Daily Show from the conservatives, filled with that much wit and presented with so much eloquence, compare that to Fox morning shows and it's quite the opposite (and believe me, i try to be open minded about what they're talking about, but it's just so ridiculous sometimes, one just can't help but laugh)
And you know, i do believe we had that discussion when we were talking about religion, but a lot of rapists and child molesters are actually not liberal at all, many of them are deeply religious and conservative (since those 2 things pretty much go hand in hand- religion and right wing-ness, that is) But that is arbitrary because we don't actually know what percentage of them is liberal and what percentage is conservative. So since neither of us has seen the exact statistics, i propose not really arguing about this point until either of us has concrete proof...
To make a long story short, if you honestly support the middle-ground, then we're exactly on the same page. But then your post applauding Jon Voight really contradicts what you were saying. That's all i'm trying to point out.
Now let's just end this discussion at that because much like with religion, we are never going to completely agree with each other on this :)
