As Saalamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

We have answered this question at least one hundred times here. Reading Quran to dead peopel is of NO avail and it is an act of shirk, for Allah tells us that the dead are dead and you can not make them to hear.

When a person dies, all his acheivements of deads stop.. because he is dead. However there are 3 things you can do for a dead parent:

1) You can make duaa for them if they were Muslim asking allah to forgive their sins,

2) You can pay off any debts they owed.. if they owed fasts to allah you can fast on behalf of the person to pay back that debt to Allah.

3) You can make Hajj on behalf of a relative who died who had not made hajj.. again this is a debt that was owned to Allah so it can be done on behalf of the deceased Relative.

4) You can give in charity for the deceased Relative if it were something he or she would have done.

Other than these things... there is NOTHING ELSE that you can do on behalf of a dead relative.

We must accept that Allah is the knower of everything and that he never lies...

"You can not make the dead to hear.." [Quran]

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
