There is no hadith that speaks of fasting the first 10 days of Dhul Hijja nor is it mentioned from the sunnah that the Prophet(saw) did this.

Instead the Prophet(saw) said:

"Fasting the day of �Arafaah, I hope, will expiate the sins of the year before it and the year to come, and
fasting the day of �Aashooraa� (the tenth day of Muharram), I hope, will expiate the sins of the year before it." (Reported by Muslim, 1976).

There is also another hadith in which the prophet(saw) says to do as many good deeds as possible during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. Good deeds can include fasting but it not limited to it.
