And you don't get much cheaper than indentured family labor" He smirked, clearly teasing about the indentured part, but maybe not much else.

He'd honestly had nowhere else to go after he'd retired from Blackwater. His wife had left him nine years ago, when he'd still been enlisted, and taken their daughter with her. Blackwater had been eager to have him after he'd finished his time with the military. But the things he'd seen working for them, the things he'd done... He'd needed someplace like this to recover, to rebuild himself into something society could use, could accept. "What about you? What blows you through town?" From the sound of it, she wasn't staying, but that didn't mean he couldn't pry right back at her. Might even find something in common...
