Anxiety and adrenaline prickled along Cassidy’s skin, giving her goosebumps despite the warmth of the summer night, and the close proximity of the club patrons. She’d been closing in on Jarek’s & Verda’s scents, and knew the two were very near now… If they weren’t even together already, somewhere in the club. She’d spotted someone who smelled richly of Verda’s scent, and started making her way toward him, until she caught the distinct signature…. Both her packmembers were in the building… and their scents mingled in a delicious cocktail that smelled better than any flowershop. She switched directions, scanning the crowd hopefully for her closest friend, and her alpha. It didn’t take her long to spot them, cocooned in a back booth, where verda could protect her back, and watch the club.
Her pace toward them was slow, cautious. To rush up to Verda would prompt a quick lashing, being scene as a challenge… She had to approach carefully, and show her submission. She hated approaching her alpha and any higher ranking wolf in human form… It was so much harder to show her obedience and deference to them in this form. She was one of the few pack members that preferred to spend all her time in her alternative body. She’d done that a lot for the past 10 months, letting her wolf guide her, letting her wolf rule her world as she defended her mistress, and followed in her wake. She decided finally to approach from the side, not head on, as that could be misconstrued as a challenge. Her gaze was downcast, her shoulders hunched, trying to make herself smaller than her alpha. As soon as she reached the table, she crouched, looking as if she was kneeling, to speak quietly to the woman. But she didn’t say a peep, instead waited for Verda to acknowledge her. A nearly inaudible whine was issued, a sound too low for the other club patrons to hear over the pounding music and their own conversations.
------------
Verda watched Cassidy approach without a show of emotion, ignored her for a full 60 seconds when she’d crouched by her side. Then her hand left the table, to lay quietly on the top of the other woman’s head. Whether or not she let on, she was glad to see the younger woman. She was not suited to life as a loner, and needed someone to look after her. Verda may be crazy, and cruel at time, but she did genuinely care about her pack, and looked out for their safety at all times. Especially the less dominant ones… In-pack squabbles were one thing, she could break them up with little more than a growl and a flick of her power. But to have her pack splintered, and wandering across the states, and over seas as lone wolves made her anxious.
Feeling more secure, in having two of her pack at her side again, Verda pulled her feet from the opposite bench, giving Jarek more room, and pushed to her feet. “Sit down Cassidy.” She’d moved out of the way, so that the young, nervous woman could slide into her bench. Only then did Cassidy look up and flash Jarek an uncertain smile.. He was still dominant to her, and with all the emotions rolling through him, she wasn’t entirely sure he wouldn’t try and reestablish that dominance with an ass kicking. He may have been her best friend within the pack, and her champion on a few occasions, but things had changed since then.
Their alpha shifted, and settled once more into her seat, her gaze going to Jarek. He was going through a turmoil of some sort, no doubt itching to challenge her, to test her like he’d done in the pack for so long. Now was neither the time nor place to show him she could, and would still rule over him. That would have to wait until they were out in the woods, running, hunting, working as a pack again. “Jarek.” She spoke his name softly, like a lover’s caress, and her hand reached out, her upper body leaned forward against the table. Her breasts contained neatly by the leather corset, but only barely. He fingertips caressed his cheek, his jaw line, and slid around to the back of his neck. Then her grip got steely, and she yanked him forward. For being so tiny, one would never imagine she was as strong as she was. She leaned forward until her lips were at his ear, and she whispered softly. “Calm yourself, my dear… You are starting to draw attention with the mixed energy you are giving off….” She pulled back just slightly, and laid a kiss upon his lips, making it look, to the club patrons, as if it was nothing more than a lover’s embrace. Cassidy whined anxiously, her gaze flicking pack and forth between the other two. She scooted closer to Verda, and huddled into the slim woman’s side, peering at Jarek anxiously as she did so.
