In reply to: Foghorn 's message, "Change is needed" on "Wed, Apr 13 2011, 19:07:33 GMT"

Are you guys seriously starting this conversation 3 days after we have secured Championship status? We are supposed to be looking forward to Saturday and game where we can relax and enjoy the game.

There's a lot of comments being made here about certain individuals in this club. I think your forgetting there wouldn't be a Moseley rugby club without those names.

I volunteer to help the MSA and remarks like this make me wanna walk away and go help another club.

Let's have some nice remarks about us staying up, did you expect premiership at the beginning of the season? We all knew it was gonna be tough. And your a liar if you say otherwise.

Anyway don't wanna say anymore because I can't believe I'm having to write this!

Niel is so on the ball. Walk the miles, he does. I know that some of the messages are form the Redding days. If u want the past, drop your money in your pocket. WE were as good as any this sesaon. Ask the press! Our place is coz 3 men got us here.

Those carping have very short memories - we ran into finanical difficulties a few years back through trying to live beyond our means. Since then the guiding principle has been only spend money we have. Would the knockers want us to change that policy? It didn't do Bees much good, or Cov and they were both lucky to just get demoted one rung in the Leagues. The RFU would be likely to deal much more harshly with any team going into administration in the future.

I happen to think that we can do better than this season if we can hang on to the current squad who have really come together in the past few weeks. Remember, for the first half of the season we had a squad of about 30 and it is now around 35. That has seemingly had the effect of allowing the coaches to always pick fully fit players, put out a strong bench and create competition for places. If we could have 35 players available for the whole season I'm confident we could realistically aspire to a top eight finish.

To me there seem to be two different discussions here. One is the stand, which would improve not only the match day experince but also increase the day to day income of the club through community use and bookings. For some reason some hold the view that this should not be built?

The second is the performance of the coaching staff. I read Ian Smiths comments about funding initially with some secpticism, but remember that the Gloucester deal was set for three years by which point the intention was to go fully professional.

I actually think the two are related in that the delays in raising funds and building the stand (and I know that money is not easily found for construction projects at present) has put a break on Moseley's progress financially. I guess the challenge is to keep the club afloat until such time that commercial activities are in a position to support a larger / more ambitious squad. In my view this is an enormous challenge and knocking people who have steadily moved Moseley forward over the past years is not that helpful...what the answer is, is probably best left to some of the people that are being mentioned not so positively above.

Let's at least give the guys some credit for a while for the fact that they pulled through and saw Moseley into another season in the championship.

I agree with Red & Black that we have the makings of a good, relativly young, squad this season, and hope most are retained to build on the last couple of months.

Don't forget that compared to some of the more successful clubs in this division Moseley are semi-professional and currently operate on one of the smallest budgets in the league (= smallest squad). This is driven by the competition we face in Birmingham in attracting financial support from corporate areas and gate receipts due to a significant football presence.

Also don't forget we have just gone through (are still going through?) a significant global recession which makes finding new funding even tougher.

Perhaps those who are complaining that the club should go out and buy new coaching and players to improve our position can also introduce the club to the sources of the funding needed?

Why say forget the stand when the money for it is ringfenced from the Reddings for this funding? Look to Exeter for a model where ground infrastructure investment has secured a sound financial base for the club to go forward.

Stop knocking the people who are prepared to put their time and money into the running of Moseley and start to be constructive in finding revenue streams to help the club grow.

Neil2468, if you feel you need to walk away because you’ve lost touch with reality then be my guest. You’re comment regarding ‘nice remarks’ is naive in the extreme. IMHO Foghorn & Eoin have raised very valid points that few others have yet answered. We all know that money is tight, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that with a different coaching team we’d have a better chance of avoiding the relegation pool next season.

Lost touch with reality? Are we still in the championship? Yes. What was the objective at the beginning of the season, oh yes to still be a Championship club. I'm still amazed how everyone was expecting a 6th to 8th finish when we lost 16 players at the end of last and added 12 at the beginning of season, so near enough a new squad of players. I'm not gonna even bother explaining that one.

I won't walk away because I love the club to much and unfortunately I'm trying to do something to help. I can't do this on my own so if anyone is interested in helping then please say so, rather than slagging an entire rugby team that has achieved the of the season.

I couldn't agree more mate. At the moment we need to be celebrating the survival, congratulating the players, looking forward to next season, asking what more WE can do as supporters and most of all actually pulling together to improve things rather than ripping into individuals, who like everyone else, are not perfect but are doing their best.

Look guys on our budget there is no way we can compete with other clubs. It is very frustrating for fans when we have a run of bad games and we ended up in Relegation play offs but it happened , we survived and we should be looking forward to Saturday which will be a great day.

I have given a lot of my time to the club , I have worked I the shop for about 4 years and now give my time to the MSA. We set this up again to support the club , the players appreciate this . So come on please let's stop having a go at each other and just get behind our Moseleyboys this should be a happy time !!!
