In reply to: Bailey 's message, "Jeremy Guscott" on "Tue, Mar 15 2011, 20:44:32 GMT"

I was there. We were at home to Bath who thought they only had to turn up to win. There was a tempory stand behind the posts on the reddings road end. Shilly definately scored the try - don't think it was a pushover because if my memory serves me well Shilly picked the ball up from the back of a scrum, sprinted 2 yards and drove over the line taking two or three defenders with him to give us the lead. The conversion - Mike Perry? - was missed. Afterwards Bath camped on the Moseley line but we kept them out. I think Richard Hill ( coach Worcester ) was scrum half for Bath at the time. I also recall Bath spurning penalty after penalty in the final minutes of the game as they tried to score the winning try - but they didn't.

Phil, if memory serves (which has been shown to be faulty above) Gareth Chilcott was one of the props for Bath that day. I seem to recall him appearing from the bottom of a pile of bodies in the puddle that was the clubhouse corner and scowling at the ribbing he was receiving from the Moseley faithful...

Phil/Bailey

Gareth Chilcott was in the Bath side and Richard Hill was their captain that day. In all Bath fielded 10 internationals.

Phil my memory is not spot on about this game but I thought it was an interception try from just outside our own 22 I've racked my brain for the chaps name who I thought scored it to no avail, I just remember him being a member of the forces based out at cosford

The try was scored by Peter Shillingford from a scrum-the report in the following week's programme says it was a pushover.

Such is the reputation of that (Bath) side that the 3-4 defeat to Moseley in 1987/88 still ranks alongside the greatest Cup upsets of all time..............leaving them without a trophy for the first time in five years.

.............. a record sequence of 22 cup matches unbeaten was ended by Moseley at The Reddings, where Peter Shillingford's early pushover try was enough to put out the holders 4-3. "The previous season they had beaten us by 30 points and obviously thought it would be a cakewalk," said Shillingford, now (in 1996) captain of Worcester. "But they had an off-day and we played to our full potential. We got in their faces, forcing them to make mistakes. I got the early try and they got increasingly frustrated. They used three goalkickers, missed six out of seven penalty kicks and four dropped goals."
