Hi,

Can anyone give me details experiences of Palm Tree Leisure.
My parents have a timeshare ripoff from Sunterra at present.
They have had it for approx 15 yrs, i'm not sure how many
points they have but recently Palm Tree Leisure have offered
them over £15,000.

Obviously very tempting and my sister and I have encouraged
them to sell for years. They have an offer in writing but my
parents apparently have to pay them a sum of money to show
their intentions to sell. So my dad has actually given them
his bank details already. I don't think they have had any
money removed from their account but I am v dubious as to
the nature of this transaction.

The whole things a ripoff and the quicker they get rid the
better but something smells a bit fishy to me.

Any info would be greatly received.

Hi Angela

I've not heard of Palm Tree Leisure but generally if the proposal sond stoo good to be true then it probably is. As a rule timeshare weeks are not worth very much and certainly not the price quoted.

This sounds like the usual con / scam - make sure that you advise the bank and contact the company in writing cancelling the offer and saying that no money should be accessed.

This is the normal scam - but generally the credit card is used to pay the fee.

You may be able to get more information from site like www.timesharetalk.co.uk.

Hope this helps.

Hi Angela

Palm Tree Leisure are on Crimeshare's blacklist. Although this doesn't guarantee that they are a scam (Crimeshare lists all companies that people have had problems with) you should never have to pay up front if you've been approached. The only time you should pay anything upfront is if you have chosen to advertise the timeshare for sale and then the cost should be only the price of the advertising. Sales commissions should only ever be taken AFTER the sale is completed. Don't ever supply bank details as any proceeds from a sale can be sent as a cheque/bankers draft and deposited by you. There are a lot of dodgy operators out there.

Hi Folks
I have recently been approached by Palm Tree Leisure with a quote rather higher than I would have expected for my two weeks at Club Flamingo, Tenerife.
Apparently a corporate client of theirs is buying up timeshare as a means on reducing their tax liablity? They sound very genuine and friendly and all they want from me is to lend them 950Euros whilst the deal goes through. They recredit your account on completion. Sounds like a good deal to me. The trouble is that I have already tried on three occasions to sell my timeshare through similar companies and in every case there has been a sudden loss of interest after I have paid my registration fee or security bond. I lost my money every time with, as far as I could see, no attempt what so ever by them to fulfil the contract. In two cases I was assured that the client had already paid them a deposit on the purchase, but mysteriously withdrew when it came to the crunch. So do you think I have found a reliable company at last to do business with? I am a trusting sort of chap and I can't believe that I will be deliberately defrauded by these people. Thanks for reading this. Mike

IF THEY WANT MONEY UP FRONT IT'S A RIP OFF, you can be sure of that.
Big sale price = no buyer

DO NOT PAY ANYBODY MONEY UP FRONT YOU WILL LOSE IT.
Let me guess, the phoned you out the blue, offered you a silly price much more that it is worth, said we have a buyer.
How many times have I heard this one, and people keep falling for it.

We got ripped off by a company offering to sell our timeshare, so we won't part with money up front again.

We have just been approached by Palm Tree Leisure to buy our timeshare and when they described the process, they referred to a bond of (I think) 950 euros. I explained our previous problems and asked if it could all be done through our solicitor. They apparently had no problems with that.

I'm hopefully going to talk to our solicitor this afternoon, before PTL ring back this evening for solicitor's details.

Not surprisingly, PTL never got back to us. I suspect the idea of dealing with solicitors scared them off.

Don't EVER give your bank details to anyone, especially over the phone. It would seem that these days direct debits can be set up without a signature and that gives carte blanche to anyone wanting to take money out of your bank account.

I'm a bank pensioner and I'm amazed these days when speaking to trusted companies and I hear that they can set up direct debits over the phone.
