A piercing whinny announced the arrival of the coppery palomino mare. Her hoofbeats thundered against the firmly packed sand though her heartbeat and ragged breath were the only sounds she could hear. Her platinum mane whipped against her arched neck as her similarly hued tail unfurled like a banner, its very ends dipped in sooty charcoal. Her arrival here in times before would have wounded her heart as memories of her past haunted her. But now she was free of all that. At least, until now. War had added a new burden to the young mare. She slowed her pace before splashing into the waves, the cool water cleansing her pelt of the lather that had accumulated there.
