I started out 20 years ago, bought my first machine used and did all my daughters clothes, don't waste your money on videos and how too stuff, go to the fabric store buy some cheap fabric and practice, practice, practice, check into the pageants your going to do, pageants are expensive do the local ones, state ones, stay away from the national big ones, way too pricy, go to consignment shops, thrift stores, and check into used stuff too, get your pageant info first and then go from there, check back here often any questions let me know, I am a grandma now sewing for my 7 month old granddaughter, cannot wait, but trust me ask questions, claire.

Mrs. Nancy sells pageant material - her email is below. You want superstretch or velvet for the bodice.

You can buy chiffon or organza for the skirt from Mrs. Nancy too or you can get it at a fabric store and Wal-Mart. You'll need fishline for the skirt hem - you can buy it at Wal-Mart. You can also go to Michael's or Joann's or Ebay and find lace for the bodice. There is a fabric warehouse on the internet too that some buy the supplies from. Look for jumbo spandex if you are buying superstretch on the web.

I buy stones from rhinestones4less.com. She is good and ships fast. There are stones on Ebay too. Some people buy from merchantoverseas.com but I'm not sure how to do that.

You just dye materials to match when you need to. Most use apple barrell paints to dye with.

Hope that helps.

I got the dvd from my pageant kids and found it to be really helpful as a starting place. You will want to adjust and make it fit your style but when you know nothing about this you gotta start somewhere.
