When do you put it in? How do you put it in? I am clueless. I am looking at our dress and I see she put it in the seems but it is sewn in. Do you put a pocket first and then slip it in? Can you get it at Joanns?

There are basically two types of boning. The sew-through boning is a tape with thin strips of hard plastic through it. You position it over the center of the seam and carefully sew down either side. The other type of boning is a thin strip of plastic that comes in a fabric casing. You cut the length you need, then remove the plastic strip. You position the casing over the center of the sleeve and pin it in place, then stitch it down on either side (there is stitching on the casing you can stitch over if need be to keep your line of stitching straight). Don't be intimidated by it. It's very easy to do!

I'm wanting to purchase some heavy weight superstretch from a store instead of online. I like to buy all my fabric together in front of my face if possible so that I can make sure I'm getting a perfect match without having to custom dye. Are there any stores in the Dallas area that sell the superstetch used for the bodice and also the fabric used for swimwear? If not, what website does everyone like to use online to buy it?

I have bought superstretch at Kays's in Dallas. They have all the colors. Be ready to spend a bundle though, it used to run around $35.00 per yard. They do have a good selection though.

I can get a bodice for my daughter for that price already sewn and everything... I was HOPING I could find it for closer to 15-20 dollars a yard. Thank you for letting me know where to look, at least with how tiny she is, I would only need one yard.

Using the Lord's word to help you hawk pageantwear is disrespectful. It's not being a witness, it's being a shill.

I am not knocking the lord issue, I pray everyday to the lord above, but when god was talking about crowns I don't think it was the beauty pageant kind, lol, not that pageants are wrong, but the shill cracked me up, sorry but that was funny, made my day. And yes I believe in my lord and savior, but she did have a point poster above.

would you all defend her if she was muslim, or another religion you do not agree with? I believe, I think people just think there is a place, and not a place for it, maybe that's why people are on her always looking for her or there clothes, shes busy in church.

And I wonder if she were Muslim or something, and had the Q'aran on her eBay listings, if you might see what I mean. Religion is Holy. Commercialism is the farthest thing from that IMO.

I'm sorry for all of you that you have to fight over someone's belief in the lord (or what ever their religion). This country has given the gift of free speech, and religion. We are so luck to have such a right that other countries do not. If she does or does not want to post on her ebay that is her choose. If you don't like it then just don't buy from her. I feel mixed about that also, but you are bidding on her work not her religion. Please also remember instead of fighting, we are coming on to one of the most beautiful times of year. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

Now my next question is where do you get stuff to decorate dresses and swim wear? I have seen the appliques (I guess that is what they are) trim, stones??? Any help would be appreciated.

All of my fabric (except SS)is on sale right now for 40% off regular price. PLUS all my shells are on sale at 40% off. You choose which one you want at:

http://s472.photobucket.com/albums/rr90/SewSpecialFashions/

Also get 40% off all of my fabric. There's a huge amount of fabric on rolls and bolts that I need to get rid of before we move up north. The cost per yard of twinkle (as an example) is only $1.86 per yard. You can't get it any cheaper than that. Sorry the low price DOES NOT include SS as I have just a limited amount of that.
I also have 2 huge drawers of pieces - many of them are big enough to make skirt layers ouut of. $10.00 per drawer or make me an offer.

I do apologize I realize it gets annoying to have all these for sale ads here, but I was'nt sure where else I could post. I have a singer serger 14J334 for sale I bought over the summer, I love the machine, but prefer my sewing machine, and my rolled hem foot, so I thought maybe someone here who likes sergers over the rolled hem foot on a sewing machine may want it, comes with extras I also have the book, it has 2 stitch fingers and more. shipping is 30.00 reguardless, it is heavy and I won't mail it w/o tracking and insurance I am asking 250 for the machine, not including shipping. To the next thing for sale I have a 3-4 BBD dress it has 6-7 gross of variuos stones on it, it is white with pool blue accents, has a white chiffon skirt, and a snow man organza skirt will take best offer on it, email for pics, and here is a link to the exact machine I bought last summer http://www.sewshop.com/Features/Features%2014j334.htm thanks for your time.

Hi!

Here's how I make them:
Cut 5 petal shapes
Bend wire to match petal shapes
Glue wire to the back of petals
Fold edges over and dry
Wire the 5 petals together and bend to your desired shape

You can see an example of them here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190248687453&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=009

You can make them as small as you need them, the process is the same.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Christy

I wouldn't mess around with a nice silk suit. You could try Woolite, but I really think your best bet is to consult a good dry cleaner. I've had dry cleaners get all kinds of stuff out of my silk things over the years.

right now for 40% off regular price.

My email is: nflorin06@peoplepc.com

I bought a Singer serger over the summer it is a model 14j334, it is a great machine, sad I only used it to fool around, I seem to use my sewing machine for everything including a rolled hem, I have weened away from sewing pageant stuff, except for a few things, and do more quilting etc so I thought I would sell it to someone who could use it, and make room for myself, I am asking 300.00 for it that includes shipping which won't be cheap as it is not light, and I will also inlcude insurance & tracking as I feel both are important. thanks again, email with any questions, oh I have the book, and machine has several pieces including 2 different sized stitch fingers.

I am finally done with my 2nd pageant dress, ivory and gold, and I was just wondering how to make a pretty bustle out of the organza, the kind you see with the organza in layers??? I know how to make bows, etc, but how do you do the organza in layers for the base of the bustle?? Do you just serge fishline in the hem of cirles and bunch them up or what???? Thanks

i measure how long i want the bustle, then i cut 2-3 circles out of the organza...one the longest, and the next 2 inches smaller, and the next 2 inches smaller. so if i wanted the bustle to be 10 inches long, i would do the circles at 10, 8 and 6 inches, but make sure you add length for hem allowance and allowance for the center hole. i cut the circles just like i would a top layer of the skirt circles. i always make my center hole a 3-4 inch hole. i slit one side of the circle, fishline, and gather where the whole is. do that with all 3 layers and put them on top of each other, each layer getting smaller. stitch together and attach to a bow. i hope i made sense.....it is kind of difficult to explain

this does make sense. I have my circles, bigger to smaller, cut, fishlined only I didn't cut out a center hole and gather there. LOL. Maybe that's why I just couldn't figure it out. Thank you so much. I am going to finish my ivory/gold dress tonite, hopefully, and then put it up for sale.

Customer shipped me the supplies and I only charged $10 labor plus shipping.

Payment was made 2 days before she needed the set, and priority takes 3 days usually at best. But I sent it anyway, with delivery confirmation as I always do.

She has contacted me a couple times saying she's still waiting on her item. It's had more than enough time to get there. However, the tracking # when it is looked up says that the postal service was only notified to expect a shipment...which tells me that the label was not scanned upon pickup.

Now the customer has filed a grievance with paypal against me. I did my part in constructing/shipping the item to the customer, but I can't be sure that she didn't get it and is just using the oversight of the postal carrier to get something for nothing. I'd like to trust this person as I have sewn for her in the past, but I don't think its fair for me to be out money for the time I put into the set. I have done nothing wrong here, and there was no insurance purchased on the package.

Below is the confirmation of the shipment we received from the USPS Click and ship site:

you said you would mail out my package on Oct.28th to be used in a photo shoot on Sat.Nov.1. you didn't , you said you were sick and didn't check emails for a couple of days and wasn't able to get to the post office. So, I didn't have it in time (with the fabric I sent her.) ( It is a simple twirl skirt for those wondering ) She purchased postage online on NOV.4, days after I needed it and started sending me snippy emails. I just want my money back for the service you didn't give me, the postage I paid for with insurance that you didn't send, and the fabric that I paid for and sent you. I do not want to reply on the website, it's ridiculous but it's funny how nice people can be until you wonder where your item is then BOOM! you can't reach by email and get no replies. Just be honest. If you still have the skirt, send it! If it was truly lost in the mail, prove it! Delivery confirmation is scanned at the delivery site by the postman so you know when it is delivered. That's kind of the point of it? You already ruined my photo shoot, just give me my money back.

Marisa,

WHY would I have told you on the 28th I was mailing it when you didn't send payment until 11:28am Pacific (2:28pm EST)October 29th?

If I had shipped the skirt via Priority Mail THAT day (which the mail had already run at that point), it still wouldn't have gotten to FL in time for your photo shoot. If you'd paid for next day air, perhaps. But $4.75 wouldn't have covered that. I even purchased gold trim for the hemline of the skirt since you didn't send any. I didn't charge you for that, so that came out of the $10 labor you were charged.

With all of my customs and auctions, there is always the option of insuring a package. You did not buy insurance for the item, and the postal service is not responsible for an uninsured item. Similarly, as a shipper, once the item leaves my hands it is out of my control.

The Postal Service clearly did not scan the label at either location. That is unfortunate for both of us. If you insist I'm sure paypal will rule in your favor being that you are a buyer, and as those of us who sell on ebay know, the buyer always wins even when they are trying to get something for nothing. I'd like to believe that is not the case with you, Marisa. I'm truly hoping that this is merely a case of the postal service losing a package.

At any rate, hope you enjoy your money back and have a very Happy Thanksgiving.

The postal service is doing some legwork tracing down this package and I WILL get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, I do highly recommend you all select 'carrier pickup' regardless of the fact that your mail carrier will still pickup the package whether you do or not...

Just for the record, for the rest of you still using USPS for shipping, you NEED to select "carrier pickup" and print some kind of retarded form that the carrier has to physically come get from you and scan, which is good for any number of packages you are sending. WHY I dont understand, because they already have trouble scanning the ONE barcode on ONE package, but whatever...

This is the postal services way of covering their hiney, but is more trouble for the customer than its worth.

You did NOT pay for insurance. You paid $4.75---the basic cost of 1 lb priority mail. Insurance is an additional $1.70 for $.01-$50 of value. So it would've cost $6.45 to ship your package INSURED. I didn't send it insured because you didn't PAY for insurance.

Just felt that needed to be pointed out. I have all copies of emails to and from you as well as the paypal payment you sent, the date and time it was sent included. I have read those and I see nothing 'snippy' in my responses other than to point out that your payment was received the afternoon prior to 2 shipping days prior to you needing the item for your shoot.

if you took the package to the post office or did you have the postman pick it up at your house? Not sure how the online delivery confirmation works if picked up but when you take it to the post office you will get your stamped receipt back.

I have received packages through the postal service and when I checked the online tracking system the system still says that they were notified of shipment. I think that it is a problem with the shipping notification system.

This is a tough situation to be in on either side and also the reason I have begun shipping UPS or Fed-Ex only. Priority mail is $5 and UPS Ground is $10. It is worth the extra $5 to be able to track my package and get a delivery confirmation from the minute it leaves my fingers. The postal service delivery confirmation is the biggest waste of money. It takes days and sometimes even weeks for them to undate their site or get the confirmation ticket back to you and is totally useless if there is a problem like this.

[> [> [> Subject: I refuse to order from anyone who does not use the USPS. Their priority mail is the best value out there, and it does not take days to update the site. The scanners download directly into the system. Plus, mail is protected. The other delivery systems can open your packages if they want, and their rate of theft is very high!

I have had an unscanned pacakge not make it to the recipient, and i had to refund their money and lose the item which wasn't insured!! I now insure everything rather paid for or not.

I choose UPS unless the customer just demands I use the post office - especially at this time of the year.

I am always anxious when I send out a package until I know it arrives safely. I find that 2/3's of the customers email or call you constantly wanting status of their order but seldom email or call to say they got the package and love/hate the outfit. With UPS I get an email within minutes of the package being delivered and can stop worrying about an expensive outfit being lost.

Your seamstress was probably not accustomed to the pageant world shortcuts. I sewed privately for years and my panties would have gotten in a wad too over anything like (goodness forbid) GLUE on a dress.

Once I started sewing for the pageant world I loosened my standards a lot. I found that I was sweating over things that no-one but me cared about. My favorite sewing manual has a great piece of advice for sewing stage costumes (i.e. pageant clothes) - "remember that they are just costumes and no one is going to be wearing them down the street." "It is what they look like on stage that matters."

Just remember to do all your alterations before you bring out the glue.

If anyone knows how, could you please e-mail me? I ordered a dress from her months ago and now she is not getting back to me :-( I usually make my own dd's clothes, but I don't have time right now, and it has been months!! If something happened to her, could you also let me know (I do not want to be getting upset with someone if they are ill, etc!)?
Also, I have a friend looking for a size 3T babydoll dress shell ready to go. I gave her Jeannine's e-mail but she hasn't gotten back to her either :-( If anyone has one, please e-mail Natalie at MyLilQueenKate@yahoo.com.
Thanks for your time.

Okay, she is still not answering my e-mails or answering me through e-Bay! I ordered this dress shell in late June/early July, and paid (in full) immediately for it!! I sent her the measurements, a copy of the design, and a scrap for color and then waited a month. I contacted her to see how it was comming along, and then she e-mailed me back and said she never got it. So, I purchased another color swatch, re-measured my daughter, and resent everything. I waited another month and the same thing, only this time I had it tracked so it was recieved. However, she claimed she never got it because she moved (she did not contact me to tell me she was moving!).
So, I sent her, by e-mail, a close-up photo of the design and all my daughter's measurements and have not heard from her sense. I now have hundreds of dollars worth of stones for this dress, the money I paid her, and NO DRESS!! What should I do??? Please help!!
Like I said, I used her before for a skirt, and everything was perfect! I usually make my daughter's clothes, but I just do not have time with school!! I did e-mail her and said if she didn't have time anymore to just send my money back, but she hasn't done that either :-(

Thanks, Shanna

P.S. Thanks to all the people that sent babydoll dresses to my friend.

I contacted them, and I am waiting to hear back from them about the time limit. I explained how she never contacted me back about not getting the information (so I thought she was making the dress). This is such a mess. I know this sounds awful, but I was thinking she had been sick or something and just hadn't been on the computer. I was hoping someone on here was friends with her and would have known. It's so nice to learn you've been robbed :-(

Thanks for all your help.

Does anyone have the link for the bad sellers site? Someone e-mailed me that there is a national bad vendor site or list or something?
And... if anyone makes custom dyed dress shells and would like to make me one, please send samples of your work, and prices, to horsema990@aol.com. I will pay in full right away, but I do need it in a month!

Your shells are gorgeous, but I need a specific color. I am not sure if superstretch comes in a close color, so it may have to be custom dyed: which is why I did not attempt it because it appears the only dying I can do is tie-dyed!!! The color is very important.
Thanks.

Got it back within a week, nice shell. It was custom dyed though and the color came off when I removed some trim from it. She offered to make me a whole new dress so I removed all my trim ruined half my rhinestones doing so. Sent the dress back and she made another one, changed a few things I asked her to change for me to get a better fit. Got the dress back and measurements were wrong. It was HUGE on my daughter. I asked for a refund and was going to ship the dress back to her Monday but now I'm kind of scared to after hearing this.... should I just keep it and call it a loss or send it back and hope she refunds my money minus the shipping I've had to pay twice?

Subject: Can you guys help? I bought a pattern and material to make a ballerina style dress. Sounds simple right? The pattern is so confusing, it has you cutting out 6 pieces and then sewing them together and on and on. LOL It's lost me. Can I not just cut the tulle to the length I want, lay flat and gather to desired fullnes and sew up one seem?? Will that not work?? My material is 50 something wide, is there a way that a circe skirt could be made for even easier?? It seemed so easy. Any help would be great.

I have always had luck just doing the circle layer method; but I guess it ultimately depends on the size you need.

The dress measurements are 18 inch chest, 13.5 inches from top of shoulder to hem. What size would you consider this when going to sell it? The chest can go smaller if needed but 18 is it's max. The top is not superstretch (could not find any in the color I needed) so I am going to include hooks instead of adding a zipper.

Subject: Costume Idea - help needed...I'm looking to turn my Strawberry Shortcake outfit into a Christmas wear. I need ideas. I have the white bloomers with eyelet lace at the bottom. They have a green ribbon on them. The shirt is white with eyelet lace trimming at the neck and sleeves. The apron that came with the outfit is white but has the traditional shortcake diamonds so I can't use it. I'm thinking that I get another apron made...but with what on it?? Instead of using the green and white tights, I thought to get red and white. Any ideas on an easy way to do this???

I let it curl in it's natural form but if i want smaller curls i wrap the fishline around an empty thread spool run it under hot tap water, stick in the microwave on high for about 20 seconds (long enough to get warm dont leave it in too long or it will melt) then stick in the freezer to get cold (the longer you leave the better but will work within 15 minutes) i then take it out let it unfreeze (if frozen) until it is room temperature again and the curl has always held in its form for me. I just leave it on the thread spool and use what i need each time i use it.

Getting out of the pageant buisness. I have tons of fabric, ribbons, trims, stones, a baby dress shell, hot pink top, blue skirt, everything to make a western wear. Too much to list. Asking $500 plus shipping for everything. Please email for pics and more info.

I just purchased hotfix crystals and a bejeweler thinking it would be a whole lot easier than dealing with the mess from glue...but now I'm wondering if the stones will stick to the dress well enough. Should I glue them on instead. Do most of you use glue or hotfix. If you use glue...is it because it's less expensive. Also, what kind of glue works best. This is my first dress and I'm clueless, so I'd appriciate any advice you can give. TIA

For the larger stones and larger point backs, I use E6000. It holds them in place, and they don't come off.

Hotfix stones (if you use the hotfix tool) can burn thru the delicate fabrics (tulle/organza etc.) E6000 gives some people headaches from the fumes...others the fumes do not bother at all. I have used Aileens Jewel Glue for years from acylic stones for costume rentals and Bridalwear trims etcs. Never an issue and you can wash. On occasion you need to re-tac with a spot of glue on some items that have had heavy heavy use and only so far on the rental costumes I have designed. I have been doing Pageant wear for the last 3 years and never an issue with the Jewel glue on Swarovski Crystals (Never tried E6000 due to the warning on the back about possible causes of cancer). I'm not saying you may not loose a stone here or there with Aileens Jewel glue (I haven't yet..but I'm sure it can happen). But I have done several repairs on top designers very well made pageant dress designs that they used E6000 and have lost several stones, trims etc. More than likely...it's from not using a enough to secure the stone or trim. But that goes with any adhesive. Too much you've got a mess...too little you have lost stones.

Note: Never BEJEWELED a pageant dress. But I have used hotfix stones with the Jewel glue, and they work fine too.

Hope that helped

My daughter does local pageants only and I am looking for a new dress in size 10 or 12. What we are looking for is something similar to http://www.dressygirls.com/products.asp?cat=16 Style # 1299, in a blue or red or rich color. She is all about the poof. Does anyone have something similar to sell, make something similar, or know where I could find one? Thank you for any help.

Hey Ladies, This is kind of an odd request. My niece does not compete in pageants, but she wants me to decorate her a dress to play in. Since its a PLAY IN ONLY dress i do not want to put a lot of money into it. My question is do any of you have a shell that is not that good that you would want to sell at a low price?

Something like, when you first started learing to sew pageant shells and it did not come out that great? I know it sounds bad, but she is 8 years old and just wants something to dress up in. As long as i put some fufu on it she would love it.

Anyway i just thought maybe someone had a so so shell they would want to sell. She would need about a size 8-10 with a short skirt.

Thanks for your time, if you do have one please email me,

Thanks!
Casey

Saw some really different costumes on ebay recently.

Sleeping Beauty in her Blue dress
Sleeping Beauty as Briar Rose
Ariel in her "On Land" dress (think "Kiss the Girl")
Mary Poppins in her Carousel dress
Esmerelda from Hunchback of Notre Dame
Wicked Queen from Snow White
Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland
White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland
Daisy Duck
the Blue Fairy from Pinnochio
the Magic Harp from Mickey and the Beanstalk
Pollyanna

Other than that, the sky is the limit on the boutique sets that most people order custom made for Disney trips. I've seen everything from the pettiskirts and applique' tops to rhumba style pants made of Minnie Dots, and more. Depends on what you are looking for.

I don't know who this is, but you best clear things up. These are my dresses. If they weren't I would not have posted these dress. As a matter a fact, They were just finished yesterday when I posted them.

I don't know what game you're playing, but you need to tell the truth about it. If I'm misunderstanding you, and you're talking about someone else, I do apologize. But if you're trying to take credit for my work, then the only thing I can say is "Charma will pay you back."

I think that you may have pasted my link by accident and not yours. We all hate others taking credit for our work. The second link that you had posted was mine, the first was yours. I kept tring to paste the link and my store site kept coming up, no one elses. So yes if this was an honest accident on your part I am sorry. But again the link that goes to the page with my 2 dresses listed are made by myself 623mad.

The link goes directly to My Ebay page. So I must have copied and paste the link from there. instead of the actual link to each dress. So it was a mix up. And I'm glad we have it clear. I know the feeling about someone trying to take credit for my work. It really gets under my skin. So thanks for checking and calling attention to it. And I do apologize for the mix up.

When I paste the second link it goes to my own page too. It is a link that will go the person page to log in unless they are already logged in than it goes directly to your own home page.

Its just a generic link to ebay.

I can't really sell them so cheap, it is really hurting my wallet. The economy is so bad that I have been listing them for weeks and I can't sell them so I have to try to sell them at cost. I can't just let them sit around my house and collect dust. We are all really feeling the pressure . Gas in New York state is 3.79 a gallon.

The hot glue sticks are by surebond and made especially for stones and glass for fabric.
Works great for applying lace to fabric.

I got mine from JoAnn's, no smell, works great and there is no getting those stones off without some work and even then it peels off the backing. Great stuff IMO.

HI, I am desperatly looking for a pair of little girls go go boots to go with a disco outfit that I am making.
Would anyone possibly have a pair in a size 12-12 1/2 that they are selling? I really don't want the bigger heel and it seems that's all I can find.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Hi, My DD has decided she wants to do her school pageant. Well we have done a pageant in about one year and her dress is too snug through the tummy. I remember seeing somewhere how to turn a dress into a lace-up back without using grommets(sp?). I know there is something you can buy, but I don't have time. Is there a way to do it yourself? Thanks in advanceQQ
