In reply to: Nancy 's message, "sewing on sequin fabrics" on 23:26:22 01/04/10 Mon

Hi Nancy,

I am also interested in finding a better way or needle to sew this type of fabric. I went to your ebay site and I did see the fabric, but didn't see any listing for sewing needles. Can you tell me how much the needles are? And do you have them available for a Viking/Husqavarna Machine?
Thanks for your help.
Lisa J

Lisa, try the wax paper technique. He said stitch with it on top of your seam and tear it away. I got that from a costume person. I would love to know if it works...

You don't need a special needle to sew with this. I have actually used this on the serger. Just have to go a bit slower than usual.
I use regular Schmetz needles in a size 90.You can get those at wal-mart. Same one I use for my other fabrics. I use a Brother SE-350 machine (got it at wal-mart). I think the glue used in the kind I carry is a lot better grade than the wal-mart kind which makes it a bit more expensive. I make the cheer bows from this and have to sew to ribbon and never had any problems.
Hope this helps
Nancy

I made this outfit for a man in California for Halloween. I think he was going to be Michael Jackson. Anyway, I had to sew the lines of sequins on black lycra and that was a lot of sewing but no problems.

Nancy...gotcha...fabric is different not the needles..takes me a minute sometimes..ha ha ha.

I have used the wax paper idea before...works a bit better..but not much for me....my best luck so far has been actually using fabric fusable lining to the inside of the sequins fabric. Yes I iron it on..thru a towel...on a light setting. It works better than the wax paper and or doing nothing...but that application isn't always useable. Sometimes I don't need the sequins fabric to be lined or to have more weight.
