Hello everyone. We're ALMOST sure we're going to start getting into pageants and if we decide to take the plunge I'm trying to figure out the best place to purchase the SS, wiglets, and lace appliques. I'm also curious to know if the general consensus is to always use clear rhinestones or if rhinestones that match the color of the bodice will produce a better result (other than white of course).

I use the plastic grids (for Yarn projects) I cut out "V" notches in the middle/center. Don't cut a way too much, at the center or it will break. It makes the hard bow wide at the ends and narrow in the center/Middle, where the "Knot" goes.

How do you cut and sew you superstretch over it to make it look smooth. I also had it break at the widest part when I tried to bend it back. I don't know why, or does it have to be so big to keep it from breaking? Thank you

when the plastic grid is laid out flat, it will look like a long bow tie. V notched on both sides in the middle and the ends will also have V notches, that match the center when folded or rolled for a double sided look. You don't hard fold the widest part. You let them say rolled/like a loop. Hope this makes sense. And it shouldn't break. I have never had that problem. Maybe the plastic grid is brittle from age. Anyways... I sew a sleeve/wide tube of fabric or superstretch. Insert the flat plastic grid and then attach the ends to the back center of the bow. After doing my hand stiching of the grids and fabric I sew a small piece sleeve/tubing making the Knot look at the center and it also covers the other hand stiching and you attach your clip/pin to that. If you want, you can e-mail me, and I can try and draw a diagramj/layout, of what I am trying to explain. Sorry for the babbling. LOL

If anyone is still up tonight could I get some input on this set?
http://app8.sellersourcebook.com/users/36262/cowsdscf1147.jpg

It is the first pageant set that I am going to list on ebay and I would like some critiques. I have done some alterations because it looked kind of x-rated without straps so here is a pic of how it looks with straps.

http://app8.sellersourcebook.com/users/36262/dscf1156.jpg

Any ideas of pricing, etc? Where do most of you sell things? I really just hate ebay, but I know most people sell there at least some of the time.

Please help me - I would like to list it this weekend if possible.

Susie

Ok, great advice, I am going to get a white cowgirl hat and make something that matches it for the band. Then do some little arm thingies (what do you call them???) For cotton would you just shirr them and add the sparkle tulle?

I agree with the other posters.. add bows or ruffles or frills to the outfit. And the more accessories it has the better it sells for. The pic with the little girl wearing it shows how the outfit is going to look when worn. I'd use that in my listing, only take one without her face showing, from the shoulders on down. And just take a seperate pic of the hat. And I would think that a black hat with the pink and white trims would be a better contrast to the outfit.... just my opinion!

Hi everyone, I just found this board and I think it is wonderful. Right now I don't have a sewing question but I hope you gals can help me out of a bind. My grand daughter is wanting to enter a padgeant that is in 3 weeks. I just don't have the time right now to make it. Anyone got a Long National Girls size 10/12. Preferred colors are blue or pink (she has blonde hair with blue eyes). Her measurements are chest = 27", waist = 27", hips = 31" and shoulder to floor = 46". I could do some minor alterations but nothing too complicated. Please email if you have anything, of course the price has to be fairly reasonable, don't laugh under $200. Granny's broke. My email address is mcmillc@embarqmail.com. Thanks for your time.

Hi
Hope I can help you. I do it the same way I make a short skirt. I put three circles together and do this 2 times. Then I cut three circles of the lining together and then sew all together. When closing the back, sew up the seams to about 5 inches from the top. This will be open to put you band on.
I then cut an 2 1/2 elastic band two inches less than waistline measurement, sew it on top by stretching the band as I go. If your top of the skirt is pretty wide, gather the layers a bit before stretching the band on.When the band is on, then finish off the edges by serging. Turn the band under about 1/2 inch then sew your hooks and eyes on. You will have three layers and 9 circles total.

I'm wanting to sew my baby girl a swimwear for pageants and a regular bathing suit for her to wear in the pool this summer. I can't seem to find anything I like for either of them. I have the pattern from MPK but I'm not sure what weight of superstretch to use. Do I have to line it? I'm lost when it comes to doing the edges around the arms and legs.

I need step by step directions.

We are doing our first prelim in over a year and I dont want to go all out cause I am unsure if we are going to do anymore after this one. ONE full under ruffle and two-three top layers for a 12 month dress. An under ruffle is a donut type circle with trips of gathered ruffles sewn around the edge. A top layer is another donut type circle just like your under ruffle but finish off the edges instead of adding a gathered ruffle.

I use regular cotton fabric for my under ruffle circle and then the gathered ruffle at the edge of it and top layers are organza/chiffon/lace.

Superstretch can be found in some big fabric stores but can also be bought online. White can be dyed with fabric dye or acrylic paint and textile medium. I know that the white superstretch and white lace dyes great with fabric dye.

You can always hold them together and if it's too much take an under ruffle out before you sew them to the bodice.

Bethany,
Thanks for the sale info on coupons. I have been using danceshopper.com for bulk purchases as their everyday prices are much less than mj. You do need to purchase most in 10 gross quantities, but it is a heck of a deal.

I had to search high and low to find them, so I wanted to share the fruit of my hard work.

I don't know of any better way to describe it, but I have seen fishnet like material dyed to match as a trim for the glitz bodice of dresses and then embellished. I'm curious to know if this is achieved with the tiniest of stones or actual glitter?

If you have seen this and know what I am talking about...any and all tips would be appreciated.

Just as I had read in some other posts I too ordered patterns from Christi, but I got them right away. The only problem is I have asked for some instructions and can't find them anywhere on-line. I think I have the fishing line down but how do you put them together? The layout shows 9 double cuts of the half circle. What do you do with them after they are cut? I don't want to just guess, but if I did I would do 3 together 6 times. That would be 6 layers. Then how do you do the waist? Is it on a waistband or elastic? It does not say. I feel like a real dummy but I sew every day and just have never done pageant sewing.

If anyone can let me know or give me the web address of some sort of instructions I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Susie

I have only altered a skirt but I had to take off the waist and take it in so I saw how it was put together.

The circles are split and sewn together to make fuller circles. The layers are stacked and then gathered into the waistband. Mine had super stretch for the waistband and I could sew it once with the machine, but in order to get it to not stretch completely out of shape, I had to hand stitch carefully after pinning to get the backside of the waist band to look professional. The waist still stretches and comes down if it is not attached to the top some how. I used large snaps to snap it to the top on the sides of the waist area. Hook and eye for the closure on the waistband. I think lots of people just safety pin them to the top .

The ruffles are then sewn onto the outer edges of the layers usually on the bottom 4 layers with two top layers just fishlined.

I think the ruffles are attached to the layers before you put on the waistband. Just my guess as I have never made one from scratch.

I think most cupcakes have 6 or 7 layers..

Just my opinion, not responsible for errors in quessing.. lol.

put the waist line on the fold of the fabric so when you cut them you get a circle or (donut) cut one side at the fold on each circle so now you have a C, sew 3 together, now you have one big circle(donut) do this 2 more times now you have 3 big circles. gather each layer to the waist size you need and sew all 3 layers together on top of each layer all you need now is a linner or 2 (depends on how full you want the skirt)with ruffles attached.Sew all layers together and put on a waist band I usualy do 3 top layers and 2 layers of ruffles so I have 5 layers for my skirts. I hope this helps and I hope you understand them.

Thanks a bunch for the help with the skirt instructions girls. Maybe now I can make one. I am just finishing my first 3 pageant sets/dresses and I think they turned out really cute. I made one of the patterns myself and it is probably the cutest, or the lady I am making them for wants several dresses of the same pattern, different fabric and trims. I also sew for a boutique and have 30 or 40 yards being delivered tomorrow so I need to finish the pageant things so I can start the boutique stuff. Now I'll probably be in a huge hurry to finish so I can "play" with the pageant designs.

Susie: Your post got my attention. Have you found any good wholesalers of cottons, prints, etc., for your boutique clothes? I'm having a hard time finding a wholesaler with the good brands that will sell just a few rolls of cloth at a time. I can handle 25 yards of a particular pattern but I don't need 50 different patterns at one time, lol.

Not a big profit margin on the boutique clothes so every penny counts. Thanks

Not long ago, a pm posted that she was irate at having to wait months for an item while making payments on it. Well, I'm irate at having paid full price, on time, and still having to wait past due dates for my items! Someone posted that sales are down for designers/seamstresses, and if this is true; lack of communication, and missing due dates is not the way to keep your business going! I run a business myself, and am unaware about unforseen happenings, but....what about a little communication? Or at least an email periodically to say whats going on with the item? Just had to unload, and hopefully some designers/ seamstresses take this to heart.

Look in the bridal section. They are usually part of a spray on a hair comb intended for use with a bridal veil.

There were some posts on here a few days ago from designers talking about getting screwed over by pageant moms. I was just wondering if the big name designers are going through the same thing or if it is just the discount designers that are charging $300 for a "full glitz" dress.

Do name designers go through all of that at all or do they never have problems with clients because of their name and the fact that they have so many orders that they can pick and choose who they want to deal with? Do they even have a lot of orders now with the economy the way it is? It is hard to imagine that SO many people can still afford to pay $2000+ for a dress...

I can't imagine that orders are not down for everyone but I think it is the "tween" designers that are hurting most. The big names are still competing every weekend so their orders are there for their favorite ladies. The newbies are trying to compete on the lower levels so the ladies that cater to that crew are probably still getting orders. The middle competitors seem to be the ones that are quitting or are cutting back.

With so many quitting there are a lot of quality used clothes for sale, cheap, and again many of the "tweens" that are still competing are going there instead of buying new.

I like the colored glass beads with an ab finish. I put a blob of glue then push the beeds down into it. Be sure to have enough glue to let it smush into the holes. I find that they turn loose from the glue too easily if the glue doesn't get into the hole.

I'm hoping someone will lead me in the right direction. My daughter is going to be doing a state pageant in May. She has been searching the web sites for things she likes and dislikes on dresses. She has found some design on a dress, looks kinda like a scroll thing on the arms/shoulders of some dresses. I however have not seen this. I am going to make her dress but can't for the life of me figure out what she is talking about. Is there any pics out there, that I might see this? Any advise would be greatly appreciated by anyone.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I have a couple of pictures as examples of what you can do with these swirls in my ebay listing for the swirls I sell.
I did not make these designs, I only use these photos as an example of what can be made with what I offer.

Hope this helps!

I really hate to bring this here but I dont know what else to do. I bougght a decorated shell back in July paid my balance of $200,made made payments along and along. Had some issues contacted designer she had no problems with me taking longer to pay for the dress.Well back in Jan I made a payment leaving $80 balance told her I will make final payment next week. She told me no problem after you make the payment dress will be ready to ship in 5 days. GREAT! That would have been Fed 2 well here it is Feb 25 and still NO dress. Every time I email her she working on this and that and ship the next day. Well yesterday in her email she was STILL working on the design and she was going to overnight it at her expense and I would havwe the dress Thurday(tomorrow) I just got an email and guess what still working on the design and shell update me later today. Well to me thats just another way of saying you're not getting your dress shipped out today. Now here's the kicker my daughter's pageant is Friday March 6th and I still have to stone the dress. I'm so mad I could spit. I have bought from this designer before and the dress was beautiful and was delivered on time I just dont get it.
Thanks for letting me rant.

You made a commitment for July when you had plenty of time to receive and decorate a dress by March. The fall is slow and the dressmaker had plenty of time back then. You didn't finish payments until a few days ago in what is the busiest month in pageant land. It sounds like the dressmaker was trying to work with you but she also has other committments to people who didn't have payment issues. I would say she was honestly trying to get your order done for you but ran out of time and either someone who paid as planned is going to be late or your order is going to be late. Not a situation either one of you wanted to be in but just as you didn't plan to have payment issues, she didn't plan to have time issues. It happens.

when I emailed my dressmaker and told her that it will take me longer to make final payments she should have told me then that my dress would be put "on hold" she never said that and yesterday was the first I heard of that. I can understand if payments were not going to be made until a certain date. I would email her and say I'm makeing a payment on this day and the amount. I don't know what the busy season is for a pageant seamtress, and if you are busy with other orders than she should have never told me the dress would be shipped 5 days later and then continue to tell me the dress will be shipped this day or that day for 3 weeks. All I want is a perfect dress for my DD in time for her pageant. She made my DDs last dress and it was perfect deliver when she promised. Bottom line is she should have been upfront about it.

Wow 500.00 for a shell, well here in my opinion, and I will probly get bashed, but as I tell my clients have items paid 2 weeks b4 due date or it will delay your item by that much time. If she said it was ready though I can understand why you are upset, I am actually surprised people are jumping you the way they are, people here seem to sympathize more, I have delayed things due to late pmts, for those who pay on time, but I have always told people items must be paid 2 weeks prior to due date, or it delays the due date time, sorry it seems your being attacked, people must be misunderstanding what you are saying, cause your saying this person said it was ready and going in the mail, and then each day says soemthing new instead of just saying hey it's not done I didnt work on it since your pmts were late.

well that is more than I would have paid for a shell, and I am the one with money to throw away, I was not being nasty, I am just tired of moms getting on here and dogging someone for what is obviously their own faults, she (the designer) gave you more than ample time and in my opinion you were the one at fault, sorry but that is just my opinion I was not being nasty, sorry if it sounded that way, and by the way your the one that brought it to the boards not me, well off to the mall with dd's.

I feel that as a dressmaker that I can not relay on the customer to pay for an item. Sometimes they don't have the money, they have a family emergancy (or so they say) and want their money back or some other excuse. I never make the dress until I have recieved full payment. If someone uses Echeck through paypal I will not start the dress until it clears. I think if you had 8 months to pay even $500 that you really are not that interested in the dress to start. And if you payed that much money for only a shell that is not stoned you are CCCCCCCCCCrazy!!! I sell low to medium glitz for that much. I can't believe that you would do that. It almost sounds to good to be try. If I made that much for just I shell I would quite my day job. If someone wanted to pay off a balance I only give them 3 months, your desighner was being really nice. But if she and you know that this was the busy season then one of you should have made sure balance was payed off by beginning of January, once February comes best of lucky to you. I always sell about 5-6 medium to full glitzed dresses this month.

I understand her concern and her payment plan may have delayed but the designer should have been more honest about what she was sending and when. Everyone gets behind but to promise it is in the mail when it is not puts the blame on the seller and not the buyer.

It is not crazy to pay 500 for a good decorated shell either. A good skirt runs 2-300 alone. Most of the top designers do not do just decorated shells but I imagine if they did it would be more than 500.00 I put over 500 in a decorated dress unstoned if you include the fabric, trims, appliques, beads, and other notions. It adds up, but not everyone uses the same type trims or materials so if you can make a dress shell for 200 great. Also not every client has a child that competes on the national level and the type pageants that they compete in is a factor for the cost too.

If anyone here might be interested. It's a gorgeous national level dress-tons of stones and I added stones on top of it, turquoise, white and spring green. Judges loved it and always got best dressed at nationals when worn.Made by Designs by Holly.
Asking $650 OBO.
Need to sell. Moving soon and want to clear out the closet of basically everything we have right now. This is the first of many to come but thought some moms looking for dresses a while back might be interested before i start posting banners and put it on ebay.

Trying to get rid of all pageant stuff. I have a mix of stones. I know I have almost 10 gross of crystal ab pointback, and a gross of the larger pear ab pointbacks. I have enough sapphire and sapphire ab to do a whole dress in different shapes and sizes.

And then I have a hodge podge of fabric. I will take $200 plus shipping for it all. Just need to get rid of it.

Here is a link to some of the stones and fabric. Pears are not pictured, I will try to get a pic of them up today.

Is it just me or is it my imagination? Does it seem to me the we are selling our dresses almost at cost the customer recieves it and then complains that there are so money things wrong that they want their money back. So I asked for the lady to send me pictures of the imperfections as she calls it. When they are called on this the don't respond back to you or they seem to respond after a full weekend which gives them plenty of time to use the dress for a pageant. I refunded before for the supposed imperfection which was not there and the dress had wear onit, from makeup. These people buy the dresses dirt
cheap, complain want a refund, and can't follow through when we want to see what they are talking about. This is the second time in 4 months that someone had tried to do this. As soon as they get the dress the complain but when I respond that sameday I have to what a week to get an answer or nothing at all. This is driving me nuts. Does anyone else have this problem. LOL in advance for you shared thoughts.

I have learned over the years to take plenty of pictures of the dress before shipping. Inside, outside, close up. Check skirt length and always measure the finished dress before packing up. I have also laid the tape on the dress bodice and skirt in a picture for proof of measurements. This very seldom happens to me, but when it does, I have my pictures as proof. If someones wants their money back it should be the day or at least the day after they receive it that they let you know. It should be sent out before the weekend and send you proof of mailing. Just my two cents !

Hey Ladies,
I had a lady purchase three outfits from me , emailed and said she received them , Loved them and then about 2 1/2 weeks went buy and she actually filled a complaint with paypal saying they were not as described. To avoid conflict, which I hate and problems with my feedback score , I refunded and even paid for returned shipping. Not two weeks later , I was looking at a voy board and saw a comp card with not one of the outfits but all three. I had a lady that actually tore a dress (took a picture of it for ebay when she filed her complaint) and said that it was ripped . I had just had the dress cleaned and picked it up at the cleaners to ship. After fighting it out with her and my credit card getting a charge back for her to receive her money back. I finally won and got my money back. Now I take pictures of everything, and I post must hear from buyer within 24 hrs of receiving item and must receive shipping tracking # with in 48 hrs of them receiving item or no refunds. I like to beleive that most people are honest , but you have a few out there that will take advantage of who ever will let them. Take pictures ladies and I like what the poster said about using the tape measure right on the dress. Good Thinking...

also, wanted to add...

I do take pictures of the dresses before shipping and let the moms look at them in several pictures through email for approval. They approve the dress and then email and say they want a refund because the dress does't look the same in person as it does on 'their' computer. now how do you deal with that?? please help!

I am going to start charging $1500 a dress instead of $300 LOL

The only way it could possibly look different barring hidden flaws (and Nancy's right - take LOTS of pictures before you send) is in color. Due to natural variations, the color you see on your monitor may differ slightly from someone else's and from real life. Also, some colors photograph very differently with digital, even within a single camera brand due to the use of different sensors.

When you send pics, try adding the disclaimer that due to variations in monitors color may not be exactly the same as the garment, but you strive to be as accurate as possible. You might also tell them you will send a small swatch if they like so they can see the true color. If they accept and then purchase the dress, they really have no excuse to try claim a refund. If they don't accept, at least you offered in good faith which will strengthen your case. It's sad to have to go to such lengths, but I think we'll see a lot more of this as the economy continues to worsen and people try to keep doing pageants even if the money's not really there anymore.

it is NOT just you!!! I have had the same experience. They want a hi glitz dress for $200, then when you tell them it will be low glitz at best, they say ok. But then when they get it, they say it isn't what they thought it would be. they want more stones, but dont' want to pay for it. if they want higher quality and more stones, pay the designer more, it is that simple. I do dresses at cost pretty much and barely proffit at all, because i enjoy decorating them. I thought I was doing a good thing for pageant moms, but more and more it seems nothing will make them happy.

I certainly don't mean to sound snotty but dealing with the nickel and dime client is seldom worth the effort. I've tried it off and on and always go back to weeding that particular clientele out by setting my prices high enough to allow me to do my best work. Most of the time the N&D moms are too new to understand what things cost in pageantland or are spending their bill money on a hobby. They are almost always expecting way more than they are paying for.

To me it just isn't worth the aggravation and when I make myself admit that if I count my time, I end up loosing on the outfit then it's really a matter of "paying to be abused." If I'm not going to make any money I would rather sew something for the house.

There are exceptions to every rule but like a previous poster said - right now people are trying to stay in a hobby they can't afford and if you sew in that price range you are going to experience a good deal of frustration over the next few months.

Thank you ladies for sharing. It is very fustrating to know that we are the ones suffering and these people don't care as long as they get what they want the way they want it. If you don't fix it the way they want it they leave negitive feedback and we have to listen to the B---h about it and we cant do anything at all. We have to sit and take this crap. I have been selling my dresses almost at cost for the last 6 months and they still email me and want me to take another $100 of the cost of the dress. Are they joking are has the crack set in. I can't live on nothing. I work my tail off running my full time business, making dresses and taking care of my daughter. I have not put her in a pageant in about 9 months because times are really hard in New York state. Patterson is tring to tax the crap out of us small business owners. I can't understand the "Nicol and Dimes". If you can't afford to do the pageants then maybe you should not be doing them at all. I'm sure that I am not the only pageant mom that is taking time off from the pageant world do to the cost of everyday living. Gas jumps up to over $4.00 for serveral months then jumps back down, groceries go up and the seem to be going up even more. Don't do pageants if you can't afford them and want a $500.00 dress for $150. GET REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have used the sulky thread, maxi-lock and embroidery all on my serger and worked great with all kinds. Actually the clear works great also, just a little harder to deal with.

It's honestly a matter of opinion. I like clear on white because the AB usually cast a blue/green color on the white.

Since neither probably needs to be stretchy, I would just biy or mix wine colred acylic paint and paint them by hand with a large soft brush!

Depending on what you're willing to spend, I recommend Denny Manufacturing. I use them for traditional photo backdrops, but they have several that would be suitable for stage backdrops. Be aware that they are expensive, but they are also very original and of exceptional quality. Just google the name.

I bought this in august it has some parts that go with it I no longer have the box it came in though, I used it one time to practice, and that piece of material I practiced on is still under foot lol. works wonderfully, but I really prefer my rolled hem foot so much more, can use 3 or 4 thread, email me with best offers, shipping is 25.00 reguarless it is heavy and this includes insurance, I am not taking a chance on it. LOL, Hubby even said he will service it, and grease it before it leaves as it has been sitting since august ( he is so sweet) he services all my machines so I can get the most from them, I appreciate your time thank you.

Make pageant patterns for other people! You can make any combination of clothing. Any style, any size. Swimwears too! Bodices, circle skirts, pants, tops, sportswears and so many other items I can't name them all. I paid $95.00 for it and only installed and used it once. I don't care for the program and don't intend to use it any more. CD/ booklet included. Will consider any reasonable offers!
Now as for the new legislation trying to pass for people who make handcrafted items..........
I'm getting really sick and tired of our government trying to rule our every waking minute! Stand up and fight back! I for one will contact my local legislators and tell them that I don't NEED or WANT any more government involvement in my personal life! I hope you all do the same!

What it is, is a computer program that you download measurements to and it will make any size pattern.

"Design custom fit childrens clothing using mix & match pattern pieces printed from you computer." I did make a dress for my daughter who was a size 14/16 at the time. So I'm assuming it will make pretty large pattern pieces. You have to put in quite alot of measurements to make the patterns. That's why I didn't like it.
It's Childs play V3. If you want to go online and research it further.
Computer requirements Windows 98se/ME/2000 & XP
You can email me to discuss the price if your still interested.

these laws are being made by people so wealthy they have no idea how ordinary people live. If things for their kids cost 2 or 3 times as much, to them it's a small price to pay for "safety" and "saving the earth" ... Oh, and let's not forget, "It's for the children!" Unless you are a welfare mom, whom I'm sure they'll subsidize so this won't adversely affect them, they have no idea how much of the income of ordinary tax-paying people goes to taking care of our kids. The worst of it is that "Nine Percent Nancy" and her lot couldn't care less.

I can't really see how pageants (and by extension dance, twirling, etc.), which rely heavily on custom items, can continue to exist in their current form under this law. Manufacturers who make kids' pageant and dance items are small compared to the huge companies who have things made in China and I don't know how they can afford the ridiculous price of testing. Certainly the use of rhinestones and beading will probably be completely out. So many moms rely on resale value to be able to afford the dresses and costumes necessary, but how many will be able to absorb the cost of a current wardrobe knowing they can face prison if they try to resell it? Not to mention, there's the threat of being turned in for it if you anger someone.

This law is the worst kind of legislative insanity, and I'm very much afraid that with this new Congress about to be seated we can look forward to a lot more of this.

I lost my job and have plenty of time on my hands now!lol (it was a blessing) I want to make my daughter a skirt. I can make them but im not that great in some area's. Like what kind of fabric do you use to line the skirt with? I think that I have always used fabric that was to heavy and my waist band ia always a mess. It's like I ruffle the fabric too much and it's too thick. Can someone please give me some pointers? Oh and Cindi and Mrs Nona, I am praying you both and your families. What size are you making? JMHO but 20 yards is too much for any size short skirt. I usually order 10 yards for a small skirt and 15 for a large skirt. Even at that I have a little left over if I don't mess something up.

I like cotton for the lining and actually just made my first skirt with a cotton waistband. I used to use the cotton lycra for waistband but I think I'm going to like using the cotton. It was so much easier to get the waistband the right size without it stretching out.

I know there are people are there that are bigger chested than I, but I can't find a suit to fit, so I don't feel like I'm falling out of it. I want to be comfortable. I know this sounds strange, but I just need a few suggestions as to were I can go and look. Thanks in advance.

Pretty much the same principle except you have to cut panels and sew them together because the fabric isn't wide enough to use the circle method. If you are using chiffon you can get it in 60" widths which makes life so much easier. White is pretty standard in the 60" but you may have difficulty finding other colors.

I would not recommend it. Satins, tulle, and heavily starched materials do not dye well at all. If it were a dress that you didn't care to ruin it would be okay to try but I would rather compromise on a color than to ruin it.

Dont you all kind of get the feeling that America isnt land of the free anymore??? I dont live in the US now because my husband is Italian and we choose to live here in Italy but the US is becoming more and more like an Iron Fist type of Society. And as for the person talking about parents not being responsible. Tell me who is responsible for their own children's safety and welfare when in their presence??? The clothes manufacturer, the charm maker, who? Give me a break!! I raised 3 children and worked in a few Preschools and can tell you that whoever is caring for that child is responsible. Unless you are willing to put your children in a plastic bubble forever to protect them, it is your responsibility to make sure they are safe! Parents need to be more responsible for every aspect of their child's life, every aspect until that child is old enough to leave home and go on their own.

I have been lurking here for a few days and reading all the posts and have learned quite a bit. I am so happy to have found this place to go for information. I have never sewn pageant clothes but have sewn for years. Two women asked me to design some for them and I am finishing 2 outfits today. I am almost afraid to try the high glitz but I think I have the fishline hem down. Only how do you finish to keep it in? Fabric glue?

Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself to you and thank you at the same time for being such a helpful group.

I have been married for 42 years and we have 3 grown sons. We got our granddaughter when she was 2 months old and have finally adopted her!! She will be 5 in March. I am now a stay at home mom but I have done quite a few things in the past, including owning a womens clothing manufacturing company. I have been sewing and selling on ebay for a few years under the name of maggie mae designs but have changed it to maggie mae kids for etsy and winkelf.

Wow, sorry to be so long winded - I think I need a cup of java!

nice meeting you!

Susie

Welcome to the crazy world of pageant sewing! Like you, I had sewn for years before discovering pageantry. I too learned a lot from the ladies on this board. Many ladies only wander in occasionally so don't get discouraged if you don't get answers to your questions immediately.

I finish my fishline off by letting the last few inches overlap where I started hemming then putting a dab of fabric glue on the end. If you try to bump the edges together without a little overlap you will end up with a bend at that spot rather than a curl.

it's not usually standard with a "household" type model. My friend does banners and she uses that hoop so she doesn't have to keep rehooping and realigning to do one banner front. The common machines 5-800 range usually only allow for a 4X4 or 5X7 monogramming area which is not long enuf to complete the pageant title on the front Does that make sense?? Her machines were about $2K but I don't remember the name brand. I bought a Janome it was about 1800 but I haven't tried to make banners I only do straight monogramming and applique work for embellishing O'alls and I haven't figured out how to make mine allow for the MEGA hoop size. So I would think this would be something to consider when looking if that's what you plan on doing with your machine Hope that helped??

depending on what type was used causing some stones to fall off but you can glue those back w/ E6000 which can take more water but less heat than say Gem-Tac. Same thing happened to my friend's outfit, she used Oxyclean and several other stain removal concoctions and after letting it soak and air dry 3 times all the tanning stains were gone. If it's just the bodice and not the skirt. you may want to soak the skirt too so it's the same color sometime white gets dingy looking frm all the hairspray. To dry the skirt I usually put it upside down and inside out on a plastic hanger to dry then after its dry I steam it using the hot shower steam to get the fluff back and wrinkles out if needed Good Luck

Greetings fellow Pageant/Photo Contest World friend.... My name is Trie Evans, 4+ year director of The Triehouse. I am here today with a heavy heart, as this past weekend a fellow mother and friend has passed away. You will know sisters, Graciela and Fiona from your contests, along with their loving mother Anjanette.Fiona and Graciela have also been involved with many pageants, so you might also know them from there.I am officially representing the Fabiano benefit contest, which is hosted by longtime and trusted director Ms. Leslie Chait of AZ. Leslie runs Jellybeans and Babycakes and is hosting this benefit on her site. Please see the link belowhttp://joriansjellybeans.com/fabiano/The site is yet to be completed but getting donations starts early and takes a lot of time.I am here to ask you today if you are willing to donate anything to this wonderful benefit. I understand that you get asked for donations all the time, and you can't donate to them all, but please, consider this one of the contests that you DO choose to give your name to. Anjanette has supported many pageants and photo contests by entering her girls in them since they were babies. She was also one of the most kind, generous and supportive people that *I* have had the pleasure to speak with online. I know she touched many hearts in many positive ways. Please show your love and support for one of the most beloved members of the photo contest, pageant and Hawaiian Tropic/California Tropic Family
We are looking for anything that your kind heart is willing to give. Anything from pageant fees,H/M, photo shoots and clothing to photo conetst entries, banners and mailable gifts. No donation will be denied, nor is too small. If you also wish to make a cash donation, please see the site on how to do so.If you want to confirm the 'legitimaticy' of this letter, please feel free to write Leslie herself at jellybeancontest@gmail.com She will be more than happy to confirm this letter is more than legitimateIf you have any questions, please feel free to hit reply and ask away. I am more than happy to assist you in anything you might need. Any prize donations can be sent to Leslie Chait at jellybeancontest@gmail.comShe has been getting an extreme email flow, so if it comes back to you, please reply to this address with your donation. Thank you so much, and I hope to have you as part of the Fabiano Benefit. If you have already been contacted by someone else, I wasn't aware of that and I do apologize. Warmest Regards,Trie

Here is another one - Our dear board friend Ms. Nona is very ill as well. Ms. Nona is well into her 70's and has been so helpful to many of us here for a long time. I had sent her an email yesterday and her son responded with the news. I don't know any details of her illness but have asked that he give us an address to forward cards to. He promised to do so at a later date.

I am not sure who know who on this board. But I use to by my stones from Anjanette. She sold stones,wiglets,bows.. I found her on this board. Both of her daughters competed in various pageants and did print work and I believe may have done a commericial. We became e-mail friends, sharing pageant stories. It is with a sadden heart that I read this on another voy board for Hawaiian Tropic Pageants.

Our hearts are very heavy and saddened to have heard the news about Graciela and Fiona's mother, Anjanette having passed away today.
Please help us to keep her husband, the girls and their family in all of our prayers in this extremely difficult time.
Her and her girls have truly been a blessing to all of us at the pageant!
We will try to keep you updated as more info becomes available.

Anjanette, we will miss you!

I just spoke to her last week regarding stones. I am in shock. I do not have any further details of what happened.

The friends left for work the following morning, letting Anjanette know, that go ahead and sleep in, just lock up when she left. When the friends returned home from work, they found Anjanette. She was already gone. I did hear she wasn't feeling well prior to this. And someone else mentioned a possible heart condition. I am not sure if that is just speculation or a fact.

She will be sadly missed. I am hurting so bad for her family and her babies. She was much too young to leave us.
May she rest in peace.

A few of you already know, but to all the other people I have yet to make contact with, I will not be making any custom swimsuits anytime soon. My brother has had a basilar artery stroke. It is the most serious stroke you can have. His outlook is very grave and we will probably have to pull his life support this week. I'm having a very difficult time and just dissolve into a puddle of tears every time I contemplate the path his life has taken. He has no wife, our parents are deceased and it's up to me and my three sisters to make this decision. It's going to be so very hard to say goodbye. But I know deep down in my heart he would not want to live the rest of his life in a nursing home with machines keeping him alive.
And this morning I come to tell everybody that has emailed me the past two weeks, looking for swimwears this so ya'll wont think I'm just ignoring ya'll. And I see about Anjentte. As I said in her post. LIFE is so uncertain and we are not promised tomorrow. So make sure to tell your loved ones that you love them. And sign those living wills!
I hope you all will say prayers for him. And Anjentte.
I will post here when I'm able to make custom suits again.
