If you use half circles on the fold as your pattern. Decide how many circles per layer and how many layers. Are you going to make each layer shorter as you go up? A good guestimate is approx. 1 yard per circle so if you do three circles for fullness per layer on a 6 layer skirt (5 organza layers + 1 lining layer), I would say about (3x5) 15 yards to be safe. Some people do 4 circles per layer. The bottom layer is the lining with a ruffle. You can get closer by knowing exact circle sizes. I start with one length and trim an inch off my pattern with each layer above it. Hope that helps.
